So I left my hygiene bag at my buddy's in Raleigh. Inside was about 20 pills of xanax (prescription). He swears the bag didn't leave his sight except for a few hours it sat on his porch (he lives in this nice townhouses on Centennial) for my Charlotte friend to swing by and pick up. My Charlotte friend forgot to come by, and so my buddy shipped it in a box USPS.

I received the bag in the mail but the xanax along with my heartburn medication (not sure who would want that) were missing.

Now i'm trying to figure out if

1.) USPS may have inspected the package and removed the drugs. There was a shit ton of stuff in the hygiene kit not sure they would have had any reason to inspect it.

2.) My buddy really kept the drugs ( this is a good friend from freshman year, with a respectable job, etc have trouble believing he would do that). I told him what was in there.

3.) For the whole 2-3 hours the bag was on his front porch (this was like at 11 AM) someone just happened to come along, snoop the bag, and took them.

most likely #2 or #3

if the USPS had cause to open your box and they found at least one prohibited item, don't think they'd simply remove it, seal it back up, and send it on its merry way...they'd likely just destroy it or report it or whatever

yo HUR, hook me up with some xanies dawg.

but, i'm thinking most likely #2 or #3. the package probably didn't touch enough hands at the USPS from Raleigh to Charlotte to even be considered for inspection.

If it shows up, let me know, i'll be in Raleigh Saturday and can pick them up for you if you would want. but your buddy probably has them, holding on to them for a "rainy day" or a neighbor, lawn care person, or nosy passer by scooped them up during the day.

also, in my day we called them "shaving kits/bags"

I used to call them kit bags, but it turns out that's something else. Apparently, the correct term is dopp kit. Way cooler than "hygiene bag."

HUR, you left out the 4th and most likely (in your mind) option: black people stole it.

2, 3, or...
4.) One of your buddy's unattended friends was snooping, found them, and swiped them. Even though you trust your friend, you don't know what his friends are like.

It really sounds like 3 or 4 in my opinion since the heartburn meds were stolen. Sounds like someone saw the pills and took them with plans to figure out what they were later. Slight chance your buddy took them and included the heartburn meds to fool you into thinking it was someone else, but you know your friend better than the rest of us.

I think the USPS would have confiscated the whole package or attempted a controlled delivery (google controlled delivery if you're not familiar with this term) if they were involved. I find it hard to believe they're in the business of removing potential contraband, re-sealing the package, and sending it to the intended destination; but I really don't know what their practices are on this type of thing.

^^^^AHA, I think it became popular during WWI so maybe you can go back in time and take it up with them.

maybe someone at the mail facility found and kept the pills. (did the box have evidence of tampering?)

1 is the least likely. If the USPS/UPS/FedEx has to open a package, they seal it back up with special tape letting you know it had to be opened. Plus, if they found something, I'm sure they would hold the package/report it/contact the shipper, etc.

That is, of course, assuming they are playing by the rules. This doesn't mean they don't have some shady employee opening up packages and stealing shit. I knew a guy that worked at the USPS and he would steal someone's Playboy every month.

Definitely not officially confiscated. My mom and uncle both worked for the postal service and DJe is correct. You would have also likely received a letter about it.
