new show on FX that premieres tonight at 10

Quote :
"Based loosely on the Danish / Swedish TV series of the same name, The Bridge follows two police detectives – one Mexican, one from the United States – and their joint effort to investigate a serial killer menacing both nations along the Texas-Mexico border. Their investigation is complicated by the rampant corruption and general apathy among the Mexican authorities and the violence of the powerful borderland drug cartels. The show title refers to the Bridge of the Americas that serves as a border crossing between El Paso, Texas and Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, the setting of the series."

getting a ton of hype and looks very promising

I'm pretty psyched for it, especially after seeing the pilot director's most recent film Miss Bala, which was insanely good.

I couldn't stand the lead female character and turned it off. FX is quality but not sure this one is my cup of tea.

Yeah, he really is.

I'm only a few episodes into season 2 so I'm not tired of Kerry Washington yet. She fine, and the president stuff is hot.

not sure if i want to get into Scandal or not. Do i really need another show?

Now for The Bridge...very polished, interesting cast, Diane Kruger is playing up the disorder almost too much. I get it, brilliant detective with no social bearing. Ok I get that she's probably been able to keep her career due to the captain protecting her through most of her life on the force, but Kruger is playing this character more on the bratty 11 year old girl spectrum than the talented but flawed spectrum. here is to hoping they can balance that out some.

yeh, the girl is annoying as shit. hope that changes quickly. interesting concept, though I feel it's a bit slow and clunky. The reporter's plot was an interesting part.

Pretty much agree with this entirely. And I don't give a shit what disorder you have you can't drive like a fucking maniac swerving around and running stop signs and not have your license revoked within days, cop or not.

I like the story but the decision of whether I keep watching this show will ultimately be decided by how Diane Kruger plays her role.

Watched the first two episodes last night. Really like the series so far. The back-and-forth b/t Sonya and Ruiz is fucking hilarious. Sonya clearly has Aspergers, and I really, really appreciate that the writers are consistantly depicting that in her characters mannerism and interactions rather than just throwing some line of dialogue in you face like "HURR DURR I HAVE ASSBURGERS!!"

At this point I feel like this series has a lot of potential, and I'll definitely keep watching.

And I'm calling it now, it's the El Paso police captain guy.

I think that whoever is driving the main plot is using these murders to focus attention to and fix corruption and "bigger" social problems than they are capable of tackling solo and within the bounds of the law. I don't believe that the person behind the body on the bridge, faux car bomb, and dead immigrants in the desert is the same guy as the creepy dude with the beard/sideburns. I think he, along with the drug lord in Juarez as well as the lady with the horse ranch are all potential targets that our villain mastermind will drive the deceives towards using his own brand of motivation.

At this point my theory is that this is her captain's way of giving Sonya a case that will truly challenge and engage her. Something that will keep her occupied after he's "gone", as well as pairing her up with another strong male figure to take up the leading role in her life. We've already got evidence that this has been planned for at least 3 years. And who better to be bitter about social injustice than a near-retirement age police captain?

Sorta like a going away present.

She's already been perfectly set up as the quintessential tragically flawed protagonist. Now all we have to do is sit back and watch as the story resolves her of her issues, if possible.

Not saying I'm right, but that's what I'd do if I was writing this shindig.

[Edited on July 21, 2013 at 7:14 PM. Reason : no, no dutch version, just a hunch]

Okay I have a question. Did the creepy guy with the sideburns kill that Mexican girl? I mean he had her locked up in the trailer and then next thing you see is him burning two large trash bags of...what?

You see him remove her cell phone from the jeans pocket, but the girl hadn't been wearing jeans. She had a dress on.

i really don't think it's the captain. caught up on the two most recent episodes last night. i like this show, but it hasn't gripped me to the point of appointment television like a lot of other FX shows.

I'm no longer sure it's the captain either, but they've yet to provide me with any compelling evidence that it's not him, so I'm still suspicious.

After watching all the current episodes, my opinion of the show is that it's OK. Not great, but OK, and good enough to keep me watching for now.

My major gripe is that to me, the writing doesn't have the same "polish" that other FX shows I like have (The Americans, Sons of Anarchy, etc). Mainly this is centered around characters making decisions that would normally never be made by anyone (who the fuck chases a serial-killer into dark, unlit warehouse alone, without telling anyone where you are going and without a weapon). I feel like it's a good story, but that it's still a little rough around the edges.

Just when I was able to bear Sonya she reverts back to the whiney girl end of the aspergers spectrum in the first 5 minutes of this episode.

^i'm not picking up any issues with her accent. Also when did she become an American or an American actress only? Half of her work is in foreign cinema.

Diane Kruger only has the tiniest of German accents in her regular speaking voice, but she has a very distinctive way of speaking that's out of the ordinary for English.
