I am looking for a car to replace my 335i. I have reduced the list to two cars. The Pontiac G8 GXP (M6) and an E90 M3 (DCT). Requirements were sedans with 400+ hp, space for 2 child seats, active aftermarket/community and complete cost <= 40k. The fact that they are both possibly collectible cars (possible last NA M3, Pontiac dead, low GXP numbers) also put them as front runners.
The E90 would only be getting an exhaust and tune. Eventually suspension. The GXP I would supercharge with full suspension upgrade. Eventually cam, headers, exhaust, etc.
Which would you choose? I may take the car to the track a couple times a year. Mostly driving to work, transporting the family. Other suggestions are welcome to. 7/26/2013 9:02:09 AM |

M3 is going to be the better driving experience, hands down. However, depending on how long you plan to keep the car, parts and repairs could cost you $Texas down the road.
G8 does have a different type of cool factor, more "muscle sedan" than "sport sedan". More room inside (while the M3 is by no means small, getting two kids and all their associated Stuff around in it could be a challenge). Parts will cost less. However, once you throw a blower on there, reliability becomes a big fat question mark.
As low as the GXP #s were, the Pontiac is arguably the more interesting car. The M3 is probably the better car, but is it better for your situation? 7/26/2013 10:13:46 AM |
