I've got the kit pictured in the link below, plus an extra bottle (and a third if I can find it). The unit still has CO2 in it, but I'm unsure of how much.http://www.amazon.com/Sodastream-Fountain-Soda-Maker-Starter/dp/B001KYT6CS/Picture of the actual items: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7400/9487473005_13a5209652_b.jpg$50

how does the final product turn out? i don't know anyone who actually owns one.

It varies by flavor. I really liked the diet lemon lime and energy drink flavors, didn't like the diet root beer as much. Never tried any non-diet varieties. It's really handy to be able to make soda at home when you need it, versus carting 12 packs home from the store and storing them somewhere. At the very least you can use it as a backup for when you run out and want some soda or sparkling water.

you didn't even try a regular old Coke/Pepsi/Cola type mixture?

^ Do they sell those?http://www.sodastreamusa.com/flavors.aspx

yeah its the very first one[Edited on August 12, 2013 at 1:09 PM. Reason : i just meant 'Cola']

Yeah, I was confused by Coke/Pepsi. Their Diet Soda was pretty decent, but imo not as good as Diet Coke. Never tried the regular soda.

btttany other bids?
8/28/2013 10:06:28 AM
The value of a sodastream is almost entirely in the co2 bottle. They basically have the same business model as inkjet printers. If you can refill the co2 yourself, it becomes a really affordable alternative to canned soda. If you buy the official canisters it ends up being 2-3x the cost of coke, even with discounts.

So was $35 not good enough for you? Because I wasn't going to go above $35 either. If E Man's bid fell through, I'll go $35.
8/29/2013 1:25:47 PM
$35 will work...I'm out of town till next week, will take the highest bid then (E Man then you if that's still the high bid)]
8/29/2013 1:29:52 PM
F That. WAAAYYY too much work for $.20 off a bottle of Coke. This is just too much work for a lazy ass...

For me it wasn't about saving money, it was about the convenience of making my own soda at home versus dragging 12 packs home from the store. It's also nice to never run out, never have 2 liters go flat, you always have some fresh soda available.
8/30/2013 9:42:20 AM
bttt, first $35 takes it(disclaimer: i can't find the top for one of the two bottles)
9/6/2013 10:51:43 AM
