My brother lives there in the Bayshore/Hyde Park area and loves it. That's about all I know.

What advice do you want in particular?

Where in Tampa are you looking at living? Areas I've spent most of my time in:

Brandon - pretty plain...has all your shopping needs/malls etc with a ton of chain restaurants...drive everywhere

St. Pete's - beach drive reminds me of North Hills...good restaurants and bars on and near there

Ybor City - my favorite area, great if you're looking for cigars or nightlife

Tampa's not a place you go, it's a place you end up.

The only thing Florida has going for it is no income tax, but all the other downfalls of the state far outweigh this benefit

Tampa is actually the only place that I think I could live in FL

Ybor City is really cool and the beaches on the Gulf Coast are way nicer than anything on the Atlantic side.

That said, Tampa Bay is full of redneck trash and ghetto people, so I won't be moving there anytime soon

I was surprised to see that Tampa has never hit 100*F since climate records began, but I couldn't imagine never having a winter again

.I lived in Tampa for 3 years.

Great place, awesome weather. It will get in the 50s in the winter time for about 3 weeks, but will otherwise be 70 degrees and sunny all winter. People who talk about it being hot....NC is more humid than Tampa. The sun is def stronger and it gets hot, but you have a breeze off the bay/gulf. In the summer it rains every day at 4pm for an hour than stops. So its hot....but no as hot as NC.

Many different bar districts. If you like nightlife, my suggestion is to live in the Hyde Park area. Hyde Park is on and around South Howard Street, which is a bar district close to downtown. Ybor is a shithole, not sure why someone suggested that. It looks like Bourbon Street and has lots of bars, its a decent place to go out and rage every once in a while but otherwise it is ghetto.

I lived on South Westshore Blvd in The Cove apartments. They were reasonably priced and their pool is on the bay/water front. Was a few miles for Hyde Park yet near the bridge to St Pete.

If I moved back I would live in St Pete near downtown. It can get sketchy real quick, but there are some cool historic places to live. St Pete downtown is more laid back and less douchy than going out in Tampa. Its also near the Rays games and closer to the beach. St Pete beach is ~25min from Tampa, so not a bad drive for a day trip. Depends on where you work also because traffic sucks there overall.

Any specific questions happy to help

two words: Mons Venus

three words: Cigar City Brewing

three more words: Earl of Sandwich

maybe not necessarily in that order.

I saw Ybor City on my way out... it's a shithole... for any crowd...

Places I was considering are going to be in the South Tampa area. We are considering Hyde Park but really like Palm Ceaia (sp?). We like that area because of the schools for my daughter and the fact that every couple we've seen just walking around has been really young and with their first kid... the same stage in life as we are and that's what we're trying embrace... community.
