Season Premiere is September 28th with Tiny Fey (!) hosting and Arcade Fire (!!!) as musical guest

Cecily Strong is your new Weekend Update co-anchor and possible anchor when Seth Myers takes over Late Night

a few articles on the new blood:

http://www.grantland.com/blog/hollywood-prospectus/post/_/id/87240/scouting-report-meet-your-new-saturday-night-live-cast

100% ok with Lorne promoting Mike O'Brien and demoting Tim Robinson. check out Mike O'Brien's web series, it rules.

Next year can we leave the season number off this thing? Lets just have one thread for the show.

I don't see why it's a big deal. it's not like there are 38 other season threads clogging up the board.

and each season of SNL is it's own thing

It would be nice to be able to read through the history of the show without having to navigate to 39 different threads.

While I'm not a fan of mega-threads in general, I think they serve a purpose when it comes to TV shows.

Curious to see how they fill the void this season, last season it was pretty noticeable that Wig and Sandberg weren't there, I can only imagine with Fred, Bill, and Jason all leaving.

I didn't really miss Samberg at all.

Hader, on the other hand...who's gonna host game shows?!

I'm certainly not the first to say this, but Hader was totally this generations Phil Hartman. he'll be the toughest to replace

and I absolutely love Armisen and Sudeikis

this is why SNL is SNL and can never be duplicated. Lorne almost always nails replacements/new casts (except for 86 and 95)

Tim Robinson is a better performer than people give him credit for, but he never did anything important.

Everyone expected Taran Killam to go off the charts this past season because he's fucking great, but leaning on the exiting trio put a damper on that. This year, it's ALL TARAN, ALL THE TIME.

I had heard of, but not ever really heard Arcade Fire before their two songs tonight...I enjoyed them both, but were they both two of their more "pop/radio" songs? Cause the songs and performances were pretty good, and you can tell the band has musical talent, but I didn't come away thinking "omg best current band out there nowadays"

[Edited on September 29, 2013 at 12:53 AM. Reason : maybe i shouldve posted this in the arcade fire thread right next to the SNL thread]

They don't really have any "pop/radio" songs, aside from "Wake Up," which you've probably heard in eight million commercials. And even that one is only used because it has a super epic riff.

So is Arcade Fire's whole deal to have good music and ironically, fucking terrible singing to accompany it?

They should do this every week.

I'm sure it would generate better ratings than some 30 minute car/law firm commercial.

The weak premise sketches were saved by performances. Kenan's reaction to getting the giant bag through the door and Moynihan's sneaky farter facial expression were both awesome in a totally unremarkable sketch.

it was implied that morning talk shows absolutely suck the life out of their hosts due to the unnatural chipperness they all have to exude
