Anyone watch this on HBO the other night? Stephen Merchant's latest show about a web developer trying to get a date. For those unfamiliar with Merchant, he works a lot with Ricky Gervais and did a lot of writing for both the UK and US version of the Office. He's a master of awkward comedy and he proved it in this show. Some scenes were so awkward that it was painful, lol.

Brilliant? Really? A dude spilling some drinks on his shirt was the comedic highlight of the episode and it barely made me chuckle.

If you found the part where he fell to be the funniest part, then yeh I can see how you wouldn't like it

That scene was clearly meant to be the climax of the episode, don't act like it was some throwaway gag.

So far, this show isn't funny, and Stephen Merchant is really unlikable. (Dislikable?)

I liked the music though, like it was kind of pleasant to have it on.

I just watched the first four episodes of this.

Im pretty 'meh' on it. I generally really like Stephen Merchant too.

All this show is so far is him seeing how awkward a position he can put his character in and he does so with the most un-likely/ridiculous behavior.

It has its funny moments but it can't be the entirety of the show. Hopefully it improves.

I like the show, but it gets so awkward that I have to fast forward through portions of it (you know you've been around people like that and its super uncomfortable). yeah, a bit weird, but it really works on other levels.

I was fast forwarding through the dinner with the gays when I finally said, "fuck it, I can't watch this anymore." I think I'll try it again, but that was way too awkward.

I find it funny but at the same time so uncomfortably awkward that it makes me cringe. It reminds me of the UK version of the Office in that sense. Man that show was just painful to watch -- not because it was bad just because it was so awkward.

I don't understand why you would try to watch a comedy where all the comedic elements are based on awkwardness when you apparently can't stomach awkwardness.

Unless you're watching solely for the mayo-in-the-lotion bits.

All that said, the show is decent.

The cringe is the best part. I think the show is awesome, it brings me back to the awkwardness of when I was in college and tried my damnedest to get laid and was terrible at it.

I can take a good bit of it, but that dinner party episode was just all awkward. I'm okay with a good mix of comedy and awkwardness...but there wasn't much funny going on there. Lets try for a balance.

Just caught the last 2 episodes.

They were definitely better but I still don't care about Wade or the female tenant (who's name I don't even remember)

plowed through the entire season last weekend. Show definitely starts finding a nice balance in the last few episodes of the season so I really hope it gets renewed.
