Been in beta for a while now, kept wanting to make this thread but have been too lazy. Game is pretty fun. I would say about 50% of it is strategy and 50% is RNG possibly more like 40/60.

I have also been in the beta for a month, it's very fun but if you get a bad draw you're hosed

it's going into open beta next month and will be on iOS and Android next year

I went to sign up for the beta, but apparently when I updated my phone at some point it reset my authenticator, so the Blizz site wants just short of a DNA sample before I can detach the old one, and reattach this "new" one.

You get an email if you're in the beta giving you a key; so you can definitely give it away if you don't want it.

They have already done the beta 'wipe'. Anything anyone has right now they keep forever.

I tried to just take my time and not buy any card packs but I eventually gave in. Once you buy packs though it seems like they instantly start putting you up against other people who have bought them and I started getting raped.

As I said before yes strategy can win you some games, but a good portion of it is your card draw. Doesn't matter if you have a couter to everything in the game if it isnt in your hand when you need it.

Played a bunch of arena matches last night, basically broke even.

It has definitely gotten tougher playing regular matches ever since I purchased some card packs.

I'd be interested to see what the win % is b/t going first and going second. Getting the extra card AND the coin still seems extremely OP. I almost always lose going first, and almost always win going 2nd.

Yeah I think right now going 2nd is much more beneficial in most situations. They either needs to drop the coin or drop the extra card. At the very least they need to make the coin a 'neutral' card. Right now it counts as a spell and also will set off rogues combos. So it becomes particularly overpowered when certain cards are in your opening hand.

Their blizzcon panel showed a lot of stats and going 1st has a slight win advantage over going second currently.

A lot relies on card draw, but knowledge of the cards is very important. Knowing the big guns of other classes and what they might draw should influence how and when you play your cards a lot. Things like knowing turn 8 pyro's can come and hit you for 20-30 if you let a mage set up, or knowing mind control can come at turn 8 (soon to be 10) and plan your big cards accordingly (or bait the mind control before that), etc.

You can win with the basic cards, based on personal experience and from what I have read as soon as you start buying packs it will match you up against other people who have bought packs and may have bought a shit ton more. I waited a while before buying but got bored with so few options I have probably bought like 30 packs now I would guess. I like to buy 2 packs every few days or so mainly for the fun of opening them. Admittedly I went from winning 75% of my games to probably 25% after buying packs though if that helps your decision.

I play both a lot and both of those classes are very dependent on starting card draw. Against both classes typically you see them trying to build up cards so trying to kill off any plays that will let them draw cards is important. Run either class out of cards and you are in good shape.

I'm in the beta and enjoying it. Though I wish there was more variety in the daily quests beyond win x with x class that I get most days. My best arena match was 3 W 3 L. So you can say I'm pretty bad. Most of the time I'm lucky to get 1 win.

To comment on the "worth it to buy packs thing" - packs cost 100, arena entries cost 150 and you are guaranteed a pack in return. The more you win, the better you get out of it, so I think that's generally the way to go.

I arena'd with my golds for the for the first 2 weeks, then I got tired of the Arena. The deck drafting process felt too hit/miss for me. Either I got super lucky and got to pick from amazing cards, or my deck SUCKED.

I've since started investing my gold into just buying packs. I figure building up a good foundation of cards to play normal games with will make completing quests and winning easier, therefore generating gold faster.

*shrug* idk, it's all going to get wiped soon anyway before the public beta

They aren't wiping again. They already did the only wipe they are going to do. Anything you get now you keep through release.

it gets more varied as you go i think. There are kill x minions with a cost above 5 quests for example.

Yeah of deal 100 damage to the enemy hero which is why i always concede as soon as I am guaranteed to lose, when you have this quest it really pisses you off when other people do it haha.

I feel like I get very streaky as well. Some nights I seem to win a lot and then some nights I feel like I lose 10 games straight. Wonder if its just moving up and down the ranks as I win and lose playing better and worse people.
