So a friend has two Dell XPS 14z laptops, both of which don't work on WiFi when connected to the TWC-provided Wireless N router. They did at one point, then no longer do. When I create a hotspot with my phone and connect to it, they work fine over WiFi. Other devices on the home network work fine.

Any ideas what could be going on? I already tried updating drivers but that didn't help.

Don't think I have, but I'll give it a shot.

For the sake of clarification, I'll note that the laptops can connect to the internet, it's just very slow....like 20 seconds to load Google slow.

I have all sorts of issues with my TWC router. They're generally pieces of shit. I just plugged another older N router I had into one of the ethernet ports, configured it, and moved on. It's not worth the time and trouble to troubleshoot their dysfunctional shit.

When I upgraded to the high-quality Internet access on a promo deal, and they sent me a combination modem/router (Ubee DDW3611), I kept my old router and put it in the Ubee's DMZ.

Yeah I need to search for a tutorial on bridging UBEE with a router, just always forget about doing it. I had the tutorial before, and it's been posted in this forum before.

Just dealt with a similar issue where the wireless card drivers couldn't handle WPA2 which is what they use on a lot of these combo modem/routers from ISPs by default. Had to update driver to get it to work.. instead I just plugged in my netgear router which has a different password/security

Well, I'd start by checking and seeing what channel the router is using. It is possible (although unlikely) it is using some UNII channel space that the laptops don't support. I'd see if the router is configured as 'N-only) or mixed mode (set to mixed to give the most flexibility).

Also, are you using similar authentication/encryption? Assuming you are using WPA2-PSK?

I am having this problem! I cannot connect from my laptop to the house wifi. And when it does connect I get only 1Mbps. So to connect I teether the house wifi through my phone for the laptop to connect. I don't know what I did with the laptop that causes this problem recently.

Pretty sure I caught a virus. Symptoms are, Cannot connect to home wifi (but can when using my phone as a hotspot), Cannot access sites like google.com or facebook.com (but TWW works fine ), some page thinks I am browsing from a mobile device. Cannot do Windows Update. Scanning with Microsoft Security Essentials. Haven't had a virus since the 2000s. I believe this was due to too much pr0n.
