What rituals do you have for eating certain foods?

In middle school, our cafeteria sold Little Debbie Swiss rolls in 2-packs. They came in plastic on a little piece of card stock. You'd take the rolls out and set them on the plastic, then you'd take the card stock and carefully plane the chocolate coating off the rolls with its edge.

From there, you'd either slice the rolls into smaller pieces or try to unroll them without breaking them so you could plane all the delicious filling off. If you could manage to do that, you'd eat the cake and save the filling for last.

Reese's Cups:

After removing the wrapper, I carefully remove the paper from the cups as to not leave any of the chocolate layer on the paper. Whenever I get those cups that had slightly melted and then re-hardened, I become rage-face.

Assuming this is successful, I carefully nibble the chocolate layer from the edge of the cups and then throw the remaining choco-peanutbutter disk into my waiting gullet.

Diet coke:

When opening a can of diet coke, I *always* tap the lid with my finger. I do not know why. It does nothing. But I can't not do it.

that's pretty much it.

When I have a bowl of Lucky Charms, I eat all the oat pieces first.

I used to work with a guy who, when we went to lunch at Burger King, would always eat his fries first, eat his burger second, then drink his drink last.

I smell my food and drinks as well. Not every bite, just the first bite or sip.

My brother does this.

I'll only really do it if it's something I've never tried before.

It makes being an alcoholic a bit difficult. Ethanol and my nose aren't the best of friends.

As a kid when I'd eat Crunch Berries, I always ate all the "non-berries" first and saved the berries for last.

I'll make a sandwich at home and and deconstruct the whole thing to eat it.

I rarely eat oreos, but when I do I'll separate, eat the center and then the cookie

I always disassemble nabs of any kind. Take the crackers apart, scrape the filling off with my upper teeth, and then eat the cracker top & bottom.

When eating a sandwich on standard breads, I eat the entire crust edge all the way around and then the center.

Chick-Fil-A waffle fries get dipped in honey mustard and/or chick-fil-a sauce (which is sort of mustard-y). Fries anywhere else get ketchup (or occasionally A1 or bbq sauce), those are the only ones that get honey mustard.

Not sure this qualifies as a ritual, but I eat boxed Mac & Cheese dry with the powdered cheese sprinkled on top, not melted in with milk to make a sauce.

Or, first eating all the skin from roasted chicken before dealing with the meat.

With cakes decorated with real butter-cream frosting, I have been known to eat all of the cake first, then turn to the frosting.

Christ, who hasn't posted in that thread?

Fries in the Frosty, right? That's a big one.

When I go through the drive-thru at Cook-Out, I always get chicken nuggets as a side and eat them on the way back to the house.

Same here.

I have to microwave cookies and most baked goods (i like chocolatey things to be a little melted).

If have samoa/caramel delight girl scout cookeis, I dip them in coffee/tea so the caramel is slightly soft.

Cadbury Creme eggs: Even as a grown-ass man, I carefully nibble the top off to reveal the creme filling, which I then extricate with my tongue so I can savor it without anything as mundane as chocolate getting in the way. Then I eat the hollow shell.

Bone-in Chicken: I am told that watching me eat chicken is an, ah, experience. The exact ritual depends on which piece of chicken we're dealing with but the upshot is that all that is left are bleached shards of bone. So for a drumstick, for example, it's eat all the regular chicken, carefully remove that little toothpick bone, strip it of any lingering meat, then return to the bone. Do another scan for tiny slivers of meat. Bite off the cartilage at the proximal end. Then bite off the relatively soft bone at either end. Then carefully crack the bone open in 2-5 places with my teeth, pry it open, and attack the marrow. Deposit bone shards to side. Remember that I'm in public/on a date, feel ashamed of myself. Then realize that I have just asserted man's dominion over nature and sit up proudly again.

Theater/sports event nachos: Dip several chips in the cheese and leave them there to absorb it and become slightly soggy (but leaving a portion out to remain crunchy). If I could afford it, I would eat this until I died of fake cheese poisoning.

I have a pho eating ritual.

I put in the basil, cilantro, all the chili pepper slices, squeeze the lime wedge in and add some sprouts depending on how much room there is in the broth. Then I taste the broth and add sriracha if the chili's aren't speaking very loudly.

I have a Tiger to drink and I polish off the whole bowl of soup, then I go home and take a 3 hour nap.

I don't know if this is normal or not.. I eat sandwiches and burgers from the outside in. Like a ring all around it so only the inside is left. I think it's just in case it's burnt on the edges I get the good bites last. Also sometimes I stuff like many many fries in my mouth without chewing at all, but one at a time. I don't realize I'm doing it. Like I'm storing nuts in my cheeks

I think unrolling Swiss Cake Rolls as the norm

If I eat some delicious fried chicken from my local Bojangles, I usually eat all the skin before the meat. Healthy, I know.

I smell my food before eat it too; it's part of the experiences.

When eating sandwiches, I always examine them to see where the optimal next bite is.

I think everyone does this, but at Thanksgiving and other larger meals, I carefully cultivate the last bite by eating all the stuff I'm not a huge fan of first and then making sure there's a perfect amount of the good stuff left.

When encountering a new alcohol -- like in a mixed drink or something -- I always want to taste it by itself first, so I have an idea of what it's bringing to the table.

I eat all of the different foods on my plate one at a time. For example, at K&W I eat all of the Country Style Steak first then I eat the whole bowl of collards and then I can eat the Mashed Potatoes.

I, too, prioritize skittles, I sort them by color and I start with the most numerous color until it has the same number as the second most numerous and then I work down the line one of each color until the least numerous one is the last left

With skittles I abhor the purple and pretty much always try to pair it with a green one at the same time to sort of cancel out the flavor. I savor the reds and will not allow them to be mixed with any other color.

And, with similar-sized candies and snacks, I always eat them by twos.

The exception is goldfish. I eat goldfish one at a time, using my tongue to prop them up vertically between my molars so I can neatly split them in half before consumption.

Baked potatoes must be chopped and mixed. Requires A1 sauce.
Drink milk with spaghetti
Drink soda with pizza
Avoid bone-in chicken (except drumsticks & chicken wings) at all costs
Oreos must be soaked in milk; oreos must be whole.
