Anyone else a big fan of Studio Ghibli films? Either by Hayao Miyazaki or others? What are some of your favorites? Howl's Moving Castle is one of my favorites and probably the one I've seen the most.

I'm really interested in seeing The Wind Rises when it gets an expanded release here in February.

I wish these were more readily available here in the states, especially some of the older works.

princess mononoke is good, but sad. if you've never watched pom poko, get ready to laugh at some ball jokes (thought that one is directed by someone else).

Ni No Kuni uses Studio Ghibli for it's art design. Beautiful game, average gameplay.

About Grave of the Fireflies.

Quote :
"However, director Takahata repeatedly denied that the film was an anti-war anime. In his own words, "[The film] is not at all an anti-war anime and contains absolutely no such message." Instead, Takahata had intended to convey an image of the brother and sister living a failed life due to isolation from society and invoke sympathy particularly in people in their teens and twenties, whom he felt needed to straighten up and respect their elders for the pain and suffering they had experienced during arguably the darkest point in Japan's history."

Grave of the Fireflies is fantastic. You do have to be in the correct mood to appreciate it.

I love that movie too but the director sounds like a real dick.

I took Japanese History in college and my professor said he couldn't watch it again. Understandable.

I love them! I think it's so cool how recognizable the art style is. Simpsons apparently did a tribute recently:

I watched From Up on Poppy Hill over the weekend. I really really liked it. It's a very traditional story, without the usual fantasy elements, but the american voice work is great with a loaded cast.

oh man The Wind Rises, the newest SG and Miyazaki film, opens this weekend at the double screen a few blocks from me. Looks like I may be doing a solo trip to check it out one afternoon.
