So for some reason ESPN has decided to have their NCAA announcers talk about how the NCAA should adopt more NBA rules. What is everyone's thoughts on this? I don't mind the NCAA rules the way they are.

So far I have heard announcers say that in the NBA there is...

No subbing after a made free throw.

When you haven't reached the 1 and 1 and have multiple fouls to give, if you foul twice in a row to stop the other team from running offense in the final minute, they are awarded a 1 and 1 even if it is only say the 4th team foul.

The 24 second shot clock.

I don't want to ever see the shot clock go to 24 seconds in the NCAA. I've watched a few minutes of an NBA game before. They get across half court with less than 20 seconds to go, pass once, or twice and toss up a shot. That would be awful to watch with lesser skilled players.

I wouldn't mind seeing a 30sec shot clock and an 8sec backcourt count in the ncaa.

The 35 second shot clock is a fucking joke. Even womens college ball has a 30 second shot clock.

+1 for 6 fouls

An entire frontcourt shouldn't be in foul trouble, which frequently happens in college ball.

^^I am, the style of play isn't as fun to watch. That is why I can't watch. They start with 24 seconds on the shot clock, get across half court and have less than 20 seconds to shoot, so they pass once, or maybe twice and toss up a shot.

It forces more efficiency on offense. You get one chance to run a set play. I like it

short shot clocks lead to bad basketball. nba is bad basketball plain and simple. good basketball isn't sexy and eventually you have to please the casual fan who would rather see dunks and olay defense than strategy and lock down defense.

I am in favor of both of these changes plus 6 fouls. Earl wants us to go back to the Dean Smith 4-corner days where the final score was 22-20. Basketball players are the best athletes in the world and a shorter shot clock leads to a faster pace and more transition plays allowing the players a chance to show their freak talent. Fuck going backwards and slowing down the game. The NBA right now is pretty damn on point. NCAA basketball is with the slow pace of play and touch fouls

Everybody agrees a 35 sec shot clock is way too long

^ Because when the ball goes up in the air, the offense and defense should have the same opportunity at it. It would completely change the game to give the offense such a distinct advantage.

Free throws are too automatic. Need to push them back to the 25 ft line and let 1 defender stand in the paint a minimum distance of 3' away.

And the free throw shooter can opt to shoot from half court for a 5 point bucket.

Exactly! A 30 second shot clock wouldn't be the end of the world, but once you go below that then you don't have time to pass the ball around and get a good shot. Watching lesser skilled teams would be awful.

What's awful to watch is people passing the ball around for 30 seconds. How come the NBA and FIBA teams have plenty of time to get good shots? And that includes FIBA amateur teams as well, not just international pros. If you can't run an offensive play in 16-18 seconds, you don't deserve to be a scholarship player.

How exactly is the style of play less fun to watch in the NBA? I literally can't fathom how someone could prefer http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400502717 to something like the Showtime Lakers of the 80s.

The 35 second clock feels like an eternity. You can run one, maybe two plays in 24 seconds. 30 is probably the happy medium, but since this is about using NBA rules, that's the number one rule. Passing around the perimeter for fifteen to twenty seconds before you decide to set a play is not good basketball. If more teams tried to score as quickly as possible or get into their sets, I may not hate it as much. There's too much indecisiveness, waiting for the coach to tell them what to do.

even if you start early, which most teams do, things can break down which means you bring it back out and reset.

in the nba that means one guy dribbles and jacks up a shot. there is rarely team ball in the nba.

We need to get rid of the shot clock then. What if things break down multiple times and a skilled team of basketball players needs to reset dozens of times in one possession

I'm not a big NBA fan but am a huge basketball fan. The NBA starts to evolve into basketball as the playoffs approach and becomes potable to us basketball purists. The college game is fine. The NBA is an entertainment business and quality of the sport is not their primary goal as long as what they're doing is selling.

A windmill dunk is a fun play in the NBA but can almost never happen unless someone does something horribly wrong. The casual fan thinks college is inferior basketball because its more about backdoor cuts than it is windmill dunks.

team basketball in college? college has been audacious in the last years. slow ass basketball where guys cant shoot. not b/c of good defense. but guys can't shoot. majority of the teams still play zone. b/c they can't guard their man one on one. the best teams in the nba play "team" basketball.

^The good teams have shooters and that is why they are good.

Also, not that anyone has promoted this, but I like the NCAA out of bounds rules after a timeout, but don't like the NBA's. In the NBA when you call timeout you get to start at half court no matter where you are on the court when the timeout is called. I don't think a team should be awarded 47 feet just because they were able to give the timeout sign with their hands, or say the word "timeout." I think when you score with just seconds left to take a one point lead, the other team should have to go 94 feet to win.

Well if we want to compare Apples to Oranges, I would rather watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3koPRFXzi3o than the Bobcats in the playoffs 6 games under .500 (And it has a windmill dunk!)

I love when people who never watch the NBA think its some glorified game of 1 on 1. It comp, etely discredits them.

^ that was an awesome game. I love college ball. But I recognize how much higher quality basketball is played in the NBA

Do you guys love women's college ball too? They have better fundamentals!!11

ncaa offense is unbelievably terrible after like the top 100 teams

you just have a bunch of white guys pass the ball around the 3 point line for 33 seconds then one white boy jacks up a 25 foot shot

team ball if I've ever seen it...

i'd much rather watch a bunch of short white guys try to pick and roll b/c that's all they have time to do.

only b/c the players are better. it's definitely more of a circus than ncaa ball.

teams place zone because its better defense. put your big guy by the basket and defend inside out to prevent easy layups.

the nba knows this and knows casual fans watch basketball to see slam dunks so they outlaw good defense with defensive 3 seconds/illegal defense. These rules make it nearly impossible to prevent a parade of layups.

Imagine if soccer outlawed having a keeper and made offside legal.
