I don't know if I dare to hope...but could this actually be a GOOD LotR game?!

It does look like it could be a really good game. I haven't really tried many LoTR games but am a huge fan of the books. This game kind of rubs me wrong with the liberties they take with the fiction though

Odds on the marks/memory feature with scars on enemies being as point as creatures features in Spore?

So it's an assassin's creed style open world game set entirely in Mordor?

Interesting.

Ubisoft is accusing them of stealing code and assets from Assassins Creed 2

not a big fan of the "enemies all stand around as you systematically take them out one by one" approach from AC

I don't mind the AC mechanics, and it looks like they're taking the combat cues from the Batman games. Definitely still interested.

This.

For LOTR I would prefer either a GOOD RTS, or Skyrim-seque type game.

""Seriously, can someone tell me how Assassin's Creed 2 code and assets are in this Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor game?" he asked his followers. "This is *my* code in that game!" he exclaimed in a later response.

"I spent two years staring at AC2. I know it when I see it."

He suggested that Warner studio Monolith (F.E.A.R.), the developer of Shadows of Mordor, may have even licensed the Assassin's Creed engine. He wasn't, he later clarified, suggesting theft of any kind. Perhaps AC was just used "as heavy reference".

"For the record though, that Middle-earth game looks pretty damn awesome. And I love AC2 so it's kind of a double win."."

This game is really fun. You die all the time too, but you come back to life. Dying is actually a really cool part of the game. If it's a random footsoldier who kills you he is immediately promoted to captain, if it's a captain who kills you he becomes more powerful.

i've hated the AC and Batman games since they've began being created. Controls suck and your character stays the same throughout the entire game.

But it seems this game is getting good ratings for people that like the AC style games.

Well this game has combat almost exactly like Batman and free roam that's so like AC Ubisoft accused them of stealing code, so if you hated those I can't see how you would like this.

Played a few hours over the weekend and really enjoyed it.

Has the freeflow combat of the Batman Arkham series (only much more brutal, heads fly everywhere)

Has the freeroam and climbing interface of Assassin's Creed.

Has a story rooted pretty deep in Middle Earth Lore, collectibles unlock memories a'la the new Tomb Raider.

Nemesis system is awesome, girlfriend and I spent way too much time analyzing the captains (especially when one ganks you), and became way too invested in taking out the ones that kill you a time or two.

Except climbing is not excruciatingly slow. You zip right up the structures in this one.

I played it over the weekend, really easy for AC and Batman veterans but it does get more difficult once you are able to issue death threats to captains and chiefs.

Thought about grabbing this for 360 but read that it's a really dumbed-down version and doesn't even include the Nemesis feature...which was really one of the main selling points.

Is the game worth getting knowing that there is no Nemesis feature and perhaps some of the "bells and whistles" won't be available in the game?

I think the Nemesis system really adds to the fun, and I'm not sure how they'd even take out that bit for previous generation games and still have it function.

^Yeah it was pushed back an extra month as well, but early reports that the Nemesis piece will not be included. Basically that was the thing that had me most curious about the game because it sounded like a fun concept.

I'll just add this game to the list of reasons why I should probably get a One.

AVENGE ME BROTHER!

Vendettas are a cool little extra for a game that lacks true Multiplayer.

I, too, am still having a blast at this game.

Also fuck that Uruk.

Beat this last night. Interesting interpretation of Tolkein's lore in general, and could be an interesting hook for a sequel if they get the go-ahead to make one...which I certainly hope Monolith does. This game was awesome.

This doesn't have very much replay-ability, though. I grinded through the story pretty quick and now it is just up to how much you like to explore and complete extra challenges.

^^ Most definitely not based off of the movies (It's not even a Lord of the Rings branded game).

^ That's about my only complaint too, I'll probably be trading it in while it's still worth something. Will still be buying the second one (fingers-crossed) on day-one though.

This game is pretty good. I really liked the combat challenges in Arkham City where there was 30 enemies on screen so this totally floats my boat.

I like how I progressed from running & hiding constantly at the beginning to gradually being able to decapitate entire villages of baddies without breaking a sweat.

for those that have played this...does the look of your character change any? Do the weapons change any? Or are you stuck with the same stuff all game that you just upgrade?

Same stuff. I'm about 20 hours in and I've never seen the option for new weapons/clothes/hair/whatever. Just new abilities to unlock with what I have.

You can get some new skins, e.g. a special "huntsman" version of Talion with the Lord of the Hunt DLC.

Your sword, dagger, and bow can be upgraded with runes that you earn by killing captains and warchiefs.

Aesthetically your weapons will change as you complete the challenge missions.
