This team was planned and built with the idea of Jonathan Quick being its goaltender. Also, with Miller as the backup, you have experience on the bench if Quick has a bad outing.

The other issue is that as well as Miller has played, he's living the "great goalie on a bad team" mentality right now, which is not the same mental space as a great goalie on a good team. Quick is in the right headspace for an Olympic tournament.

I wouldn't call LA a good team, at least not with the way they've been playing for the last month plus. Regardless, the US is in a good spot with either of them. I still think Miller is the guy though, at least initially.

I'm not as high on this team as I was in 2010. Still, if we can beat Russia in group play and get the bye, I like our chances to medal.

Czechs are playing a lot better since the second period. And I hate to agree with Pierre, but their second goal was definitely a crease violation. Don't know how Sutherland justified keeping that a goal.

Well this period has been encouraging.

Switching back and forth with the Russia/Slovenia game, Russia just went up 3-1 with a pp goal 3 minutes to go in the second. Seems like Slovenia is giving them all they can handle. Also, their jerseys are badass.

Edit: Well, it's 3-2 at the end of the second in the Russia game now. Who the hell saw that coming?

Just finished the U.S.-Slovakia game, it's like the Americans got pissed off at Slovakia for tying the game 1-1 right after the start of the 2nd period and then put in 6 goals in the period in response, Slovaks just keeled over, and then the game died in the 3rd. Slovakia weren't able to do much offensively which is a positive for the U.S. as they built the team with defense in mind, but we'll see how that does against better talent when we play Russia, who beat Slovenia 5-2 with goals from Ovechkin, Malkin, and Kovalchuk.

also saw a period and a half of Sweden-Czech Republic before I fell asleep yesterday, Sweden just outclassed them, although the Czechs apparently scored 2 after I dozed off
