Premieres 4/15 at 10pm

With Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman

Quote :
"Joel and Ethan Coen, who helmed the film, are serving as Fargo's executive producers, while the show is being written by Noah Hawley. Fargo also stars Colin Hanks as a Duluth police deputy and Allison Tolman as an ambitious deputy from nearby Bemidji, Minnesota.

Fargo's first season premieres on April 15th at 10 p.m. on FX and will have a 10-episode run. Like True Detective, Fargo will be an anthology series and will feature a different story if picked up for a second season."

Wasn't sure at first, but after reading about it and knowing the Coen's are behind it, I have to say I'm pretty pumped.

this should be good, though at this point i don't care for the anthology approach. i'm sure true detective is great, i haven't seen it. but american horror story started off great in season 1 and has gotten progressively worse. season 2 was okay. season 3 didn't hold my interest at all.

I like that they referred back to Fargo several times.

Martin Freeman and Billy Bob have an interesting dynamic, looking forward to seeing more of them together.

i'm wondering if i should go back and watch the film as it's been at least 10 years since i've seen it. not because of any tie in to the show, which i know there are few to none but just because it's been so long.

pretty good. a lot different than the movie. the accents, which were a major part of the film, are nowhere near as good in the tv show, but the plot seems solid.

i noticed in the cafe, there was a sign advertising white russians. was that a coen bros reference?

It was a lot of fun, and I was pleasantly surprised by how gory it was. I love how menacing the murderer is, and I completely missed that that was Billy Bob Thornton.

Great show. I'm impressed. I was really surprised when Freeman killed his wife and when the main cop was killed.

I don't understand what I did... I thought last week was the first episode. I don't remember seeing the policeman or wife killed. And then this episode, all that shit obviously happened. Did my DVR not record the end of the first episode, or did I miss one entirely?

Something up with this Lorne Malvo guy. I feel like he's a little bit TOO lucky/complacent when it comes to just about everything he does. Like him telling the cop that he would be saying "You're making a mistake!" in a few hours. He just happened to know the exact words he would say and everything. It just seems weird.

Well, the line is a bit of a cliché for what people say in that situation

and I imagine the character has probably been detained and released a few times before

^NO WAI! It says in the opening that it is all based on a true story!

Also, cool tie in the the movie. Although it's been years since I saw the movie I do remember the dude burying the money in the snow out in the middle of nowhere.

Sidenote: Just to confirm, the two mafia guys from Fargo that are looking into Hess' death think that Lester was banging Hess' wife and figured he was the one that killed him, right?

they just assume that Lester killed him. The "insurance money and affair with Mrs. Hess" is just a convenient resolution to get them out of Bimiji. They haven't actually discovered anything that the audience knows took place.

Yeah that's what I'm iffy on though -- all they know about Lester is that they saw him go up to Hess' house and that his wife was hitting on him.

this is kind of bad, but I don't remember seeing how Lester got the wound on his hand

was it maybe from shotgun shell shrapnel when Malvo shot the cop?

^I actually was thinking the same thing, enough to where I looked it up. When I went to Google and typed in "How did Lester..." the third autocomplete thing was "hurt his hand" so it seems like a common thing. In the first episode it never actually showed his hand get hit by anything but shortly after Malvo shot the cop and went down to the basement, Lester reached into his pocket to get more shells and then noticed his hand was wounded. So it is implied that maybe he got hit by a stray part of the shotgun or maybe some of the shot went through the cop and hit him.

This site has more info on it but be warned, there is a theory about the hand that is a little deeper than what we have witnessed on the show so read at your own risk:

I'm not sure I want to read that if it might have spoilers, so if this question is answered there sorry in advance, but...

Why is Lester not getting his hand taken care of in the hospital and acting like he needs to keep it a secret. His story is that he's a victim too, wouldn't it help his case to show the police that he got shot as well?

And when the police came to the crime scene he was knocked out. You're telling me they never noticed his hand?

Maybe there's a detail I'm missing...but I don't get it

I can't get that site to load at work, but I'll assume they have the same theory that I've pieced together. See below.

Since the police, doctors, nurses, etc have not addressed/treated the wound, and as it seems no one else has commented to Lester about it, it appears the wound is not actually there; it is some sort of mental manifestation of his guilt over killing his wife/being involved with Malvo, eating away at him.

of course, that's all just a theory, and isn't really spoilery. still, in case anyone wants to piece it together for themselves, offset with spaces.

Lester would want to keep his hand a secret because [if it is in fact part of a bullet or whatever from the shotgun] it would put him upstairs when the cop was shot by Malvo. The police should be able to determine that the shotgun was only shot once, at the cop, upstairs. Although it wouldn't be too difficult for Lester to just say he doesn't remember what happened due to the concussion I guess he doesn't want to risk it.

But also, yeah, he would have been examined in the hospital for any other injuries so they doctors would have found the thing on his hand and treated it if it were real.

you've missed the subtle dialog between Mr. Wrench and Mr. Numbers. They don't really care about Hess or who really killed him. They just need to bury a body to satisfy the higher ups. The faster they do that the faster they get the hell out of that town as Mr. Numbers has mentioned.

while i enjoy the psychological theory i'm leaning more towards this. Lester's "story" is that he heard the washer in the basement and that's where he found his wife before being knocked out. The shotgun pellet in his hand plants him upstairs at the time the sheriff was shot. completely negating his story and putting him back into the spotlight.

^ That works too...he's been so inept at answering questions about what went on that day/night that to add on, "I don't know how I got a shotgun wound on my hand I was unconscious" doesn't make him seem any more or less guilty to me

Also...at this point time has passed...why couldn't he just go to some hospital out of town and get it taken care of without having to talk to the local Bemidji police?

Yeah, that's what happened. Don't think it was shown in the first episode, but I definitely remember it as a brief flashback in the second episode (I think around the beginning).

^^My guess is that he is worried that the shotgun pellet is still in his hand and that a hospital is required by law to contact police or whatever if they find any type of gunshot wound?

And if they two mafia dudes were just looking to get rid of a body and get out of there, why would they care about Lester that much? Why not just pick some random dude off the side of the street -- they obviously don't have any moral problems with that type of thing.

Yeah they already killed a guy who didn't do it...it does seem a bit off that they are still looking for a guy but also so willing to kill Lester off basically no evidence

I know they wanted to get a confession out of him...but it certainly seemed like it didn't matter THAT much whether he confessed or not
