I think McCrory would definitely veto this. Too high profile not too, and the pockets of progressives in this state are pretty big pockets. He doesn't want to piss them off anymore than they already are.

I guess it goes back to our country's roots, as to why religion is a protected class, but it shouldn't be. Too easy to change. IMHO, a protected class should pertain to a something that you can't change on a whim.

Religion as it stands today is a fucking joke. The majority of people here are not true practicing participants in the religious movements that they claim to be a part of. It's only usefulness is as a tool to conveniently discriminate or to justify things people don't know shit about (like why bad things happen or what happens when you die or why the complexities of evolution are stupid). Just because you say "I love God/Jesus/etc." and go to church on some Sundays (especially Easter), doesn't mean you're entitled to fuck with other people that think differently. Goddamn...

That said, I'm a Christian and I love America.

He'll veto it to avoid alienating moderates leading up to the 2016 election. Of course there's probably enough teabag support to override his veto anyway, so it's kind of a win-win for him.

California Assembly Member Blames Her State’s Extreme Drought on Legalized Abortion
Quote :
"“Texas was in a long period of drought until Governor Perry signed the fetal pain bill,” [Grove] told the audience, presumably referring to HB 2, the omnibus Texas abortion bill that included a 20-week ban based on junk science. “It rained that night. Now God has His hold on California.”"

Everyone wants to be aggrieved. Victimhood is the most desirable status symbol of the last couple of years. Whether you're claiming to be an oppressed christian suffering through yet another "war on christmas" or a self-infantilized college student breaking into crocodile tears after seeing a sex scene in your film studies class, nothing is quite a powerful as being able to claim victim status.

The starbucks thing is completely insane, it's just a red cup. The argument that because it doesn't say merry christmas it is therefore anti-christian is as logical as saying that because you didn't give me $20 when I asked you have actually robbed me.

Yeah I was thinking about this over the last week as well. As much as agree with conservatives that all this PC and acceptance shit pushed by certain elements of the progressive/liberal camp (I consider myself progressive on many if not most topics), conservatives are just as bad!

While elements of the liberal camp are crying about some boy in a dress not being able to use the little girls room, getting bent out of shape over a stupid flag flown by ignorant inbred rednecks in south Carolina, or something being misconstrued are "racist" or " offensive". Instead conservatives bitch about how a boob on TV corrupts children, outrage on saying "shit" on TV, Starbucks hates Jesus for not having holiday decorations on their cups, etc

Honestly the Starbucks thing is a toss up for me. While I cringe at Starbucks rationale regarding not wanting to "offend" someone blah blah blah, I also find the conservative recant about the war on Xmas absurd. If you don't agree with Starbucks pussy scared cups designed not to offend non Christmas celebrates then don't go to Starbucks. Fortuante for me in Portland there are like 20 other non-Starbuck coffee shops. This rolling over for PC purposes is just another reason for me not to patronage Starbucks. I have to respect, however, Starbucks corporate gamble/strategy to do this.

As conservatives they should respect the free market.

This all boils down to one guy who calls himself an evangelist who had an internet rant, and some people decided to listen. I'm beginning to think this is being blown way out of proportion.

Or the people who feel that the BLM movement excludes them, since they're not black, and they retort with "All Lives Matter!!!! Don't forget about me!!!! I'm white and my life matters!!!!! Why are you ignoring me??!?!"

Imagine that there is a foster family of four boys. Let's call them Jake, Peng, Jorge, and Tyrone. They live in a household with an abusive father who belts and reacts way out of line when one of the boys gets in trouble, regularly sending them to school with bruises and sometimes cuts.

While boys will be boys and even the first 3 do get in trouble time-to-time, Tyrone has behavioral issues that often puts him under the belt more often. Tyrone is often disruptive in class, bullies other kids, etc. Exasperating the issue is that while the other 3 live in fear of their father and have become submissive during everyday life accepting punishment when they are bad, Tyrone reacts the opposite and will frequently argue and fight his foster father only worsening his punishment after he has done something wrong.

Sure we could investigate the root cause of Tyrone's behavioral issue. Perhaps Tyrone before arriving at the foster home grew up in a crack house-hold with no discipline, perhaps he suffered major emotional trauma witnessing his biological parents gunned down in a drive-by. Maybe part of the reason Tyrone argue/fights with his foster-dad and gets the extra beating is because he's fed up with getting belted every time he gets in trouble. Perhaps one of the reasons Tyrone bullies other kids out of their lunches is because as punishment for getting caught stealing food, Tyrone's dad sends him to bed without dinner. Thus making Tyrone hungry and creating a vicious cycle of bullying for lunches then not getting dinner as punishment. Maybe Tyrone has ADHD and that is the cause of the bad behavior.

Regardless there are two separate issues at play. Tyrone's behavioral issues and the abusive father. Following the Black Lives Matter logic, only Tyrone's Behind Matter #TBM and Social services would only remove Tyrone from the household or the DA would only prosecute the dad for abusing Tyrone. When in reality All the Boys' Behinds Matter. The dad should be punished for abusing all the children, whom should all be removed from the household. The other three children getting abused shouldn't be overlooked just because they aren't the ones fighting or getting in trouble as much with the father and thus getting beat less.

#ALM

In politics if you want to get something done you need to be fucking inclusive. This is something the GOP is horrendous at and despite his alleged reputation for being a hyper liberal socialist bent on destroying America, Obama has succeeded in doing. This despite republicans fighting his agenda every step of the way. If you have read some of Obama's commentaries (I found his recent Rolling Stone piece on climate change interesting) it is really impressive the grasp he has on the need for building a political consensus and focus on taking small steps to accomplish larger goals.

If the #BLM camps really wants to get everyone on board to make a push against police brutality then they should build the tent bigger. An inclusive statement like All Lives Matter is a start along with stop becoming rabid, screaming racism whenever someone retorts that #ALM.

^Here's a clip from that pastor/douchebag Kevin Swanson:

http://roygbiv.jezebel.com/this-anti-gay-rant-from-colorado-pastor-kevin-swanson-i-1741437014

The subject is something along the line of smearing cowshit over yourself and carving happy faces into pussy sores, I think.

And holy fuck I just stumbled upon another clip where he says:

Quote :
"America, repent of Harry Potter. Repent that Dumbledore emerged as a homosexual mentor for Harry Potter."

No, I don't, but it's far from encouraging to know that Cruz, Huckabee, and Jindal attended his gathering. That implies to me that he probably has a pretty significant following. Or maybe he just has a lot of money. Either way, Cruz, Huckabee, and Jindal should be damned ashamed of giving any sort of legitimacy to this guy.

I find it very hard to believe that all three of them would attend this thing knowing what he's said in the past. I'm not calling BS on what you're saying. I just find it hard to swallow that three smart guys can be so dumb.

I wouldn't vote for any of the three above, but still.

I'm quickly running out of candidates I can vote for.

According to their website, the attendance at this even was 1700:

Quote :
"...the eager crowd of 1700 laughed, cried and learned about what it now means to live in the land of the free and home of the brave."

https://generationswithvision.com/from-kevin-swanson/

Pretty sizable gathering if you ask me.

And you know how conservatives are constantly asking where are the good Muslims to speak out against the bad Muslims? Well Ted Cruz in particular had an opportunity to speak out against bad Christians; he simply pretended like he didn't know anything about it:

http://www.towleroad.com/2015/11/ted-cruz-kevin-swanson/

And for those of you who seem to think "lamestream" media targets conservatives and gives liberals a pass; why then isn't there more coverage of Cruz, Huckabee, and Jindal's attendance at this rally?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michelangelo-signorile/post_10496_b_8544540.html

I've said it before, but then I really enjoy saying it: Fuck Ted Cruz.

I guess CINO doesn't sound as good as RINO, but then again , he might not be claiming to be conservative.

There is a lot about that that is anti-republican. Most importantly, expanding government for something like this.

Probably doesn't belong in this thread and it's not unexpected but Trump is going to be EOing out of existence the Johnson Amendment. Big win for the religious right. All they had to do was give up any semblance of dignity but I doubt they care.

Franklin Graham, Tony Perkins, James Dobson (I'm sure I'm missing some) all on record defending Roy Moore and more or less calling his accusers liars.

Is there a more perfect modern analogy for Pharisees than defending a pedophile because he once put the 10 commandments in his court room???

And these people look around and can't figure out "why the country is turning away from god."
