Post it here.

It doesn't have to be strictly folk...could be folk-rock or whatever folk derivative you wanna post.

In that case i'll add to what's already been posted. just to name a few more. some of these teeter on bluegrass-folk. but the genre lines are quite blurred these days.

Chatham County Line
Mipso
Mandolin Orange
Zoey Muth and the Lost High Rollers
Dave Rawlings Machine
Gregory Alan Isakov
Bowerbirds
Justin Townes Earl
Crooked Still

the list goes on and on. you can search out examples on your own.

Devil makes three. Badass folk
Iron horse. Love their picking on series

Not pure folk but definitely some influence:
Builders and the butchers. Also badass
Houndmouth
Blitzen trapper
Shovels & rope

Also, flatt and Scruggs mother fuckers!

Devil Makes Three sounds like a more stripped down Dispatch. and that's not necessarily a good thing.

i'm being very serious...but in further listening it's just their self titled album that sounds like ripoff Dispatch (if that's even possible). Their newer releases seem a lot better, bordering on jugband territory.

First Aid Kit's "Lion's Roar" was a good road trip album, similar to Fleet Foxes

^^How much were passes to that festival originally? The three-day passes are going for about $320 on Stub Hub right now. Are you driving or flying? What about lodging?

We're trying to plan our 2015 lineup and that one seems like a must go.

^^ I was up there last year during the festival and day passes were abundant on CL for $80-$90...I'm hoping it'll be a similar story this year. I think we're driving since we're dropping by NYC for a few days otw, and my GF's parents have a house on the island next to Newport.

it's not really a matter of the site being dead...the reason we use the existing threads is because there is already content/discussions there.

Never heard of them before, but I saw them open for CCL Friday night and I was impressed. Outstanding songwriting, and that fiddle was awesome. Seems like the mandolin player is learning but that's ok.

yep, for 22-23 and fresh out of college they are writing some great songs. They're opening for Steep Canyon Rangers in November, which should be a great show to see.

^how was that show as a whole? What about the crowd? I had to miss it unfortunately. CCL is playing an outdoor show in Asheville in July, that'll probably be my next chance to see them.

This here is one of the best "folk" songs of our generation

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQMsMDCUMwI

Listening to them now and realizing how overlooked they are is reminiscent of the great blues players. That music was passed over then, but now it is what every blues guitarists runs to for inspiration. It is a blasphemy that Travis picking is named after Merle Travis.

Great show. Love sit down shows like that with great acoustics (Meymandi etc)..stand up shows are great too, but the quieter sit downs are a nice treat from time to time /oldguy
Crowd was good and I love that venue.

if there is one thing this thread proves it's that everyone's tastes are different. even within a genre.

[Edited on June 4, 2014 at 3:23 PM. Reason : bc that still sounds like Dispatch.]
