Series premiere is July 13th. The 13 episode season is based on the novel trilogy by Guillermo Del Toro & Chuck Hogan. Anyone kind of excited for this? I just bought the first book and I'm in the midst of reading it now.

Read and really enjoyed the trilogy. It could be good, but not sure if the adaptation will live up to the books.

Also not sure if it'll survive long enough to reach the end of the books. Not sure about FX's history as far as dropping shows early.

I also read and enjoyed the trilogy. I hope the series lives up to the books. It was definitely a different take on vampires, although some of the religious overtones got a little strong at the end.

Thought the trilogy was ok. It's been so long I don't remember the religious overtones.

Good potential for a series though.

I remembered not being thrilled with the 3rd book but still overall enjoyed the series.

Could be good if they stick fairly close to the story from the books. Really hope they don't just skim over all the good flashbacks.

I was trying to not give away spoilers, but it generally referred to how the virus was started.

I did like the scientific approach to the virus and how it would affect a person and population. There was a preoccupation with vampire defecating on peoples' chests (warm spray of ammonia).

In my experience they don't drop anything early. I can't even think of the last drama they dropped after having a short run.

what's good about it so far? I didn't watch. I don't tend to be entertained by vampire stuff (except Dracula Dead and Loving It lol)

It is vampire stuff that is mostly tied to the non-supernatural. Parasites and whatnot.

Loved the first episode, pretty true to the book. Also liked some of the subtle things in the background foreshadowing big elements.

Saw the previews for the rest of the season, I really enjoy Kevin Durand but he is nothing like Vasiliy was described in the book. I can overlook the change, but he was one of my favorite characters in the book and Durand is definitely NOT what I pictured while reading it, haha. (It's not as big of a change as Will Smith in I Am Legend, but it's pretty substantial)

Only real knock on the first episode was that they're showing things much earlier than they did in the book, also not mentioning some important information.

Also, the book did a MUCH better job with the whole plane scene. They revealed less and built the suspense better overall. Still pumped for the next episode.

do we need a book and show comparison thread and also a separate book and show comparison no spoilers thread for this show?

(or will people be reasonable and not read something if they don't want to accidentally see a spoiler?)

^Fat chance of that happening. Although I don't think this will get the same kind of foot traffic to warrant a couple of different threads.

I found myself not liking the first part of the pilot, but by the end, I was hooked. And it looks like, according to the previous, this is not going to be a shadow villain for too long. Looking forward to the season

Enjoyed it, other than the fact that Corey Stoll has the worst toupee this side of George Costanza

Should be interesting to see if there is any drop-off to the 2nd episode. Guillermo Del Toro directed the first episode, but think that's the only one this season.

What, was Christian Slater too busy filming Kuffs: The Return? I liked the idea of this, but the acting and writing are just god awful, IMO.

So far my only knock I have has been some of the casting choices. I liked Fet(exterminator), but not really digging Eph(though I like the actor) or Gus.

Definitely a slower episode, but building some of the key characters/relationships/histories up, so I'm OK with it.

He's the best character in that show IMO, thought Stoll was fantastic in HOC as well

my only knock on the show so far is how heavy handed they are with some of the elements. For example, how many times did the lawyer women need to make a snarky comment letting you know she was a lawyer. Or with the fact that they had to point out Eichorst doesn't breathe

might be a small gripe, but writers nowadays dont give the viewers enough credit

^^I like the actor in HOC, just not digging him as much as Eph, could be the writing. And if by the end of the first season Eph is still "the best character on the show", then they'll have failed the book audience, haha.

But I feel like you guys are letting that idea blind you to the fact that it is a terribly executed piece of shit

Yeah, the writing and acting is definitely substandard, although I don't watch FX much so this might be normal for their shows.

^^Head of the airline company. Earlier in the episode it showed him giving a speech about how the documents leaked about the flight were not true/fakes.

**SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE LATEST EPISODE**

He basically did what Sean Astin threatened to do and go back on his agreement with the Vampires/Stoneheart Group.

***END SPOILER***

They didn't do any explanation as to why his junk fell off. Maybe its coming in another episode. I mean I've read the books so it wasn't a surprise, and maybe it's kinda self explanatory.

It was kinda silly last night. One person can't shut down the internet.
