I don't think so; it happened to my fiancee and when it happened, my internet sleuthing turned up a lot of results for engine block cracks. Though I don't recall all year models that had the defect. I'd certainly ask about recall repairs and/or see if it's still eligible.

There was also a paint recall, though I don't know if it goes all the way back to 2006.

Thanks. Yes, car was already repainted because of that recall, which I don't care about. I see there are lot of complaints about cracked engine block, which Honda extended the warranty for 8 years, unlimited mileage (ending this year basically for '06 model). These are first gen with timing chain no?

Honda extended the warranty to 8 years or something like that, but it's probably not going to help you now. At least not for long if it's a 2006.

My parents have a 2006 manual with 40k miles on it. I hope they never have to worry about this problem.

This generation civic is probably the worst product Honda ever produced. Maybe it ties for second with the acura tl/cl automatic transmissions of the early 2000's.

Cracked blocks, blown motor mounts (under 50k miles), power steering rack problems (creek creek creek), paint recalls, the sun visor wont even stay up for crying out loud!

i would buy a different car if it were me.

Unless it's an Si stay away from that generation.

I, too, had a buddy with an '06 Civic who needed an engine replacement.
