A few of the major projects going on right now:
Hillsborough St Hotel and Square
Talley Student Union and Pedestrian Bridge Bridge will connect over tracks to Broughton Hall, which will be renovated and expanded
Reynolds Renovation
Harrelson Demolition and Replacement Currently the plan is for a Sciences building, something to hide the ugle Cox/Dabney Hall
Indoor Athletics Practice Building
Centennial Campus Hotel 150 room Marriott, to break ground within the next 4 months
They have also been working alot on gateways to the university. You can see this around Pullen Oval, Western/Avent Ferry, Western/Varsity, Centennial Campus (espcially at Trailwood) and other places . 11/12/2014 10:06:37 AM |

So seeing where they are putting the indoor practice facility, what if anything are they doing for to replace parking? Pave over the old outdoor one? 11/12/2014 10:58:22 AM |

About 300 parking spaces will be lost permanently after the facility is completed, but one of the advantages to Carter-Finley Stadium’s location adjacent to the North Carolina State Fairgrounds has always been its ample parking areas." |

Quote : | "The facility will sit right at the corner of Westchase Boulevard and the outer loop road. Once built, a 400-space paved parking lot with lined parking spots will sit just behind the facility, or on the opposite side of Carter-Finley Stadium. To make up for the 300 to 400 lost parking spots, NCSU will renovate the Faculty and Trinity lots by adding parking bumpers to lay out designated parking spaces. Currently, there are no designated spaces, which makes for inefficient use of space. After the renovations, NCSU will actually increase parking capacity at the stadium complex." |

^^ If money was infinite I'd like to see them bulldoze DH Hill as well and build a more attractive library, but obviously that's not happening any time soon.
The Pullen Rd extension is really an important project, I don't know what's taking them so long. Connectivity between the two campuses (and just access to Centennial Campus, in general) is really inconvenient right now, and it shouldn't be that hard for the city or university or whoever to slap down half a mile of pavement to connect Pullen with the Oval. I understand they want to redo the Western/Pullen interchange as well.
When are they going to build the pedestrian tunnel under Western at Avent Ferry? 11/14/2014 3:18:06 AM |

^^^ We've been told that article is incorrect about the trinity lot. The wolfpack club/ncsu does not own the land of the trinity lot and the owner isn't going to put up bumpers on the land just for parking 7 days of the year. I doubt they end up doing it for the faculty lot as well.

If they were to put down bumpers and do some selective tree removal in the faculty/staff lot, they could easily squeeze more parking out of it. That is very inefficiently utilized right now.
*Selective tree removal, not clearcut it. The shade is one of the good points currently, but there are some very badly placed trees. 11/15/2014 3:22:11 AM |

Here's a Reynolds renovation flythrough from a year or so ago to go along with the stuff dbhawley posted above.
They're currently working on more fleshed-out designs for the interior/HOF (I've only seen drawings and don't have anything digital handy), but this gives a good idea of what they're hoping to do.
At first I heard all the marble in the entrance lobby was being removed, then I heard they were keeping it, then I heard last week it was being removed again. So I really have no idea anymore.

Last night the city council finally approved the Pullen/Hillsborough St extension.
Quote : | "Approved the extension of Pullen Drive from Western Boulevard to Centennial Parkway. The two-year project is expected to help ease congestion once the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh builds a nearby cathedral. The diocese and North Carolina State University are splitting the $3 million cost." |
Im pretty pumped they are doing it finally, will make things in that area much smoother. I've seen a couple of models of what this could look like, but no definitive plans yet.
Also...

Lets see what updates there are:
Talley Student Union- finally opened up graduation weekend. If you haven't been to visit, you should check it out if you're around campus. Offices are slowing moving in. Bookstore will be moving into it next Monday, 6/22.
Reynolds - Coming along really nicely. I bought a pair of seats from it which are sitting nicely in my living room. The N&O did a photo story a couple of days ago, check it out if you havent yet. http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/acc/nc-state/article23892619.html
Hillsborough Street - (I know it has its own thread for this). Stanhope, opening up this summer with CVS and IHOP moving into its retail level. Aloft Hotel opening Aug 20th. Jubala Coffee will be opening on the ground level of the hotel. A couple other apartment complexes in the former Two Guys Pizza, Dan Allen Intersection, and Ihop old location are underway.
Centennial Campus StateView Hotel and Conference Center - Broke ground in April. Marriot Autograph Collection hotel with 164 rooms, 9,000 square feet of meeting space, an outdoor pool and a restaurant and bar. Slated to open Fall 2016.
North Shore Apartments- This project was stopped back in 2006 after only 33 townhomes were constructed. It has picked back up, and the developer is hoping to build an additional 47 new townhomes, as well as 2 condo buildings with 32 units in each.
They are also looking for finally develop a "town center" on campus near North Shore. They have 15 acres overlooking lake Raleigh set aside for this, and the university is supposedly in talks with developer(s) to see what this could look like. Not much info on this right now.
Maybe I should consider starting a website blog with all these campus updates...

Carmichael has had a bunch of renovations too. The majority of the bottom floor has been redone in the last 2 years, and this summer they're working on renovating the locker rooms. They've also closed the newly renovated areas on the 1st floor for the summer and potentially the fall semester too (guessing that's related to the locker rooms getting a complete overhaul). 6/16/2015 11:05:16 AM |

A couple of weeks ago it was announced that the Board of Governors agreed to sell the Hillsborough Square site (which is currently Staff Parking) to a developer. It is a larger lot beside David's, and a smaller lot behind it.
Today it was announced that it would be turned into a 5 story apartment building called Studio 1912.
Quote : | "A five-story, crescent-shaped apartment building that its developers are calling Studio 1912. Construction of the 54-unit Studio 1912 apartment building is expected to start in the fall, around the same time that the new Aloft Raleigh hotel one block away opens for business. The curved, crescent-shaped Studio 1912 building has been designed to maximize use of the small site, currently a surface parking lot at 1912 Hillsborough St. next to the Players Retreat and David's Dumpling & Noodle Bar restaurants. The building will have some parking spaces for residents on the first floor as well as at a nearby surface lot across the street, along Pullen Road, reserved for Studio 1912 residents. Studio 1912 is slated to have 54 market-rate apartment units of only studio- and one-bedroom units. It will also have a few selections for micro-units of under 350 square feet, a more affordable living option in bigger cities that's not as prevalent yet in the Triangle." |

Looks like we are exchanging a 80 acre site with SAS.
Typically I am firmly against NC State selling its land. Land is one that onces its gone, you cant get it back. However this exchange deal seems like a no brainer. Basically we have $11 million go to shopping around. We decide what property we want, and SAS buys it for us.
I didnt know about the policy regarding selling land, that only 25% would actually go back to the University. Wonder if this would have been the case with that forest they were trying to sell a while back.

I never understood why NCSU didn't try to get involved with the Dorthea Dix property when Raleigh was trying to acquire it from the state. The property is inbetween the main campus and centennial so NCSU ownership would of made perfect sense. I guess State has so much land it doesn't really matter but I am sure the university could of put it to good use. Hopefully the city ends up doing something pretty amazing with it that will complement the college. 9/5/2015 6:05:41 AM |

When I had a gym membership over the summer I was only told about the bottom floor of the old building being expanded and overhauled.
