Looking forward to this. Chris Pratt is OK, but this would have been perfect for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Still looks like a cheap CGI fest to me.

Gimme back animatronics.

Is there a Mr. DNA cameo? A simple yes/no would suffice.

^Yes.

Fun movie. I'll wait until more folks have seen it before posting some of the details. Chris Pratt was surprisingly serious in the film, I was expecting him to be a real silly guy just making jokes the whole time, but he did a good job being a little more realistic. Movie in whole was a little predictable at times, but better than The Lost World or JP3 (not saying much there). Clearly doesn't come anywhere close to being as good as the original, but the original is so iconic that nobody would really expect it to.

The CGI wasn't great. The effects they used in the first Jurassic Park looked better which says a lot since it came out 22 years ago. They even used CGI on the opening park gate which was a little unnecessary.

Still a good movie though, any fan of the first should def go see it.

^Don't get me wrong, there are still some cheesy parts of Jurassic World. It just doesn't have outright stupid things like a T-Rex running around in San Diego eating dogs and chasing Japanese tourists in an obvious parody of Godzilla. No Dr. Ian Malcolm though!

Jurassic Park and The Lost World were some of my favorite childhood books. I cringed when they made a third movie. I'll probably still see this though. It's gotten generally favorable reviews.

^4th

One thing I really didn't like was all the product placement. I don't mind it if it is subtle but there were parts of this movie that felt like a Mercedes commercial.

I haven't seen it yet, but am going to next week.

One thing that worries me about it is all the CGI.

The thing that made the original so great was the animatronic dinosaurs. They were pretty realistic and you could tell they were actually "physically there"

I can only hope that T-Rex comes in at the end and destroys that new dinosaur... and a banner floats down a la the original and says "Dinosaurs still rule the world"

I took them a whole year to generate the FOUR CGI scenes in the original Jurassic Park. I didn't even know there were only four. The T-Rex jeep chase scene took 4 months. Now they just ejaculate shit onto the screen.

^ He used practical effects for the close-up shots and cgi for the wide angle. Pretty brilliant actually.

they also used night time and rain to kind of "hide" the CGI with the t-rex so it looked a lot better than it would have in a day time shot.

Whatever, it wasn't terrible. Honestly would have been the perfect summer action flick if not for the stupid evil humans subplot. Listening to Kingpin drone on about raptors in Afghanistan ruined the pacing more than the dumb kids.

I've always loved the original, don't remember anything about II or III. Enjoyed this one though, nothing ground breaking, but a solid summer action movie. Would've been better without the kids and without the army angle, but it seems like that was put in there to set up future sequels.

In JP, we had to wait to get to the fireworks factory, and the factory was awesome.

In JW, we show up to the fireworks factory right away and it's whatever. There's not any real tension or suspense at any point.

It's not bad, but it's a mess.

This was better than I expected but still got a bit too ridiculous at the end.

I just want the t-rex to show up and whoop some butt for once. He always gets his ass handed to him.

Also the dinosaurs have looked worse and worse as these movies have come out. Its sad.

That's all nostalgia talking. The CGI in the first JP was fantastic for its time, but it's far from today. Especially the scenes in good lighting.

No one's arguing that the technology hasn't gotten "better," the point is it's sometimes overused or used improperly, http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-reasons-expensive-films-end-up-with-crappy-special-effects/

Except you can go watch the original Jurassic Park and the dinosaurs look better in that movie than they do in Jurassic World.

Its not nostalgia having watched them both within a week of eachother.

^Agreed. Just watched the original on Wednesday. The dinosaurs looked better than they did in Jurassic World.

Definitely agree with you on that one. In the original there is TONS of build up. Aside from the iconic shot of the brachiosaurs and the baby raptors hatching you don't even see any of the dinosaurs until the power goes out and you see the arm of the TRex pulling the fence down. I'll never forget that part when the kid looks at the goat with the nightvision goggles and all you see is the chain dangling on the bent up rod right before all hell breaks loose.

Also, this:

I read an article that a lot of the product placement was done as a creative decision to show how commercialized the park was.

I was very disappointed with this movie. Way too cheesy, i found all the characters aggravating except Chris Patt, very iffy CGI, and just a tone and vibe that did not feel in the mold of a Jurassic Park movie (the original had everything: appropriate humor, action, suspense, even horror elements). Better than JP3, but not even as good as The Lost World (that movie is constantly underrated IMO)

Holy Shit this movie made a lot of money this weekend.

Quote :
"Doubling the original weekend estimate proffered by Universal Jurassic World is now coming in at a reported $204.6M ($204,596,380) for its opening weekend, the 2nd biggest of all time, taking an Express Pass by this May's Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.2M) and almost catching Marvel's The Avengers ($207.4)."

Quote :
"Also stunning is the $307.2M the film made overseas for a cumulative $511.8M worldwide opening, which is the highest global bow in history, and not by some slim margin. It is the first time a film has ever grossed more than $500 million in one weekend. That foreign box office is the second- highest international opening in history, behind Warner Bros. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 at $314M. Jurassic World can also claim the title of Universal's highest-grossing international weekend by a large margin, beating the previous record holder Furious 7 with $250.4M"

What's funny (to me) is that online YouTuber Jeremy Jahns published his initial review of the film that basically bashed it to shit and compared to a January release. However, he then later published a newer, more apologetic review after people went to see and the response to the film was overwhelming positive. It must have been embarrassing for him, but then again I don't know why he wouldn't just stick to his guns if he is a real movie critic.

i felt like some of the subplots may have been expanded more but had to be cut for time (the divorce, some of the interaction with the other trainers, the reference the scent game that they've done it a lot but except for the pig you really haven't seen much training at all, etc...)

So how does the "midnight" release work into this? 10 years ago, a midnight release meant that it was actually playing at midnight. Nowadays it means that it is playing at 7, 8, 9, and 10 the night before in both 2D, IMAX, and 3D. That's gotta be a big chunk of extra money for the weekend sales numbers right?

The key is properly mixing CGI with practical effects. Spielberg did this brilliantly in Jurassic Park. While the sequels did not.

So what is the deal with the 11 year old engineering mastermind? The two kids find a Jeep that has been sitting in disrepair for 22 years. Even if it still had gasoline in it's tank, gasoline doesn't store for 22 years without going bad. He was able to get it to work with NO tools, using a golf-cart battery, in the span of about 20 mins, all while under the full knowledge and stress that there is a super smart killing machine hunting them. His granddad must have done a hell of a job teaching him about cars.
