See they try and discredit FSU going undefeated this year in football by saying that the ACC is a weak conference but not one peep about how weak the SEC is basketball wise. They lose in the elite 8 game this year.

I think UK goes all the way undefeated.

And yes, the SEC is a weak basketball conference for one of the power leagues.

Even if UK does go undefeated and win the title they still won't even be one of the best UK teams in recent memory let alone one of the best teams all time.

College basketball has gotten so weak recently it's astonishing. The diffusion of talent over so many schools in D-I and the number of guys who don't stay more than a couple of years has led to a really weak product.

I know I'm going to sound like an old man, but back in the day college basketball was way better.

They'd be the first team to do it in almost 40 years. Pretty sure that will be something for UK fans to hang their hats on and people to laud as one of the legitimate best teams of all-time.

They'd be wrong though. I mean, this team isn't as good as the John Wall/Demarcus cousins team of a few years ago let alone amongst the best teams ever. Look across the landscape of college basketball and tell me there's a team out there as good as say... 1990 UNLV or any of the UCLA teams with Kareem. There just aren't teams with the kind of quality and depth anywhere in the country. If this UK team played 1990 UNLV or 1992 Duke they would get housed, and we all know it.

It's a little bit like the 1972 Miami Dolphins. The only undefeated NFL team, but clearly not the best team ever, probably not even a top 10 team all-time no matter how much Mercury Morris would argue otherwise.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be an impressive achievement, just that this UK team, even if they go undefeated and win it all wouldn't even rank at the top of all time UK teams and probably viewed objectively wouldn't even be considered better than some UK teams that didn't win a title.

I mentioned in some thread a few weeks ago that I thought the Wall/Cousins team was more talented than this team, but their inexperience didn't let them win it all. But if this year's team DOES win it all, you can't just discount them yet. They're not blowing teams out by 30 points every game like UNLV did but UNLV was in the Mountain West too. And what if some of the stars of this year's Kentucky team go on to have great NBA careers? Wouldn't that make this year's team seem better in hindsight?

I'm just saying even if the overall landscape of college basketball is down this year, it's really fucking hard to go undefeated all year, and then win 6 more in the tourney. If they get beat at some point which I have a hunch they will, the argument will be null. But if they do win it all, time will tell how they are ranked among the all-time great teams.

^^ For sure, if Towns and Cauley-Steins turn out to be legit lottery picks and multiple time NBA all-stars this team will look a lot better in hindsight, but just judging right now they don't look as dominant or as talented as a lot of teams who won the title and had a couple of losses.

It may take a couple years but I wouldn't be surprised if Towns ends up better than Okafor. The rest of that roster, who knows, they have guys like Booker and Ulis who are sick college players but have physical drawbacks when it comes to the NBA. For whatever reason they've just kinda disappeared from the national conversation since conference play started, which is hurting their perception some.

Disagree. It's made it more fun in my opinion. Schools that used to no longer compete can if they have 3 or 4 seniors go on a nice run against guys that have the A-list recruits just because they have the smarter more wisened up basketball players. Like I care when watching N.C. State play if any of these guys will be in the NBA.

well, only to the extent that it affects future recruiting. Also, most are good guys that I want to see succeed.

It won't take years. Towns is already a way better defensive player. Okafor has a polished offensive game, but he's going to get murdered by NBA bigs when he has to defend them.
