Would they be any less dead if he hit a parked car at 55? 12/19/2014 8:40:10 AM |

I didn't say anything regarding that, I just quoted a part of the article that I thought was worth highlighting 12/19/2014 9:31:59 AM |

No, but he'd have more reaction time and time to stop, preventing him from hitting the parked car in the first place, and therefore not be dead.12/19/2014 12:09:21 PM |

That sounds like something I would say. 12/19/2014 12:16:32 PM |

wildly speeding bikers are very common here. the limit in the area where the accident occurred (where there is absolutely no room on either side of the traffic throughway, in a concrete canyon) has since been lowered to 70 kph, but bikes are still going through there at 140 (and douches are routinely driving 120 through there).
I think the sentence is overly harsh in this legal climate (someone going 240 kph in a 70 zone only got a fine and license suspension back in 2011) and doesn't factor the sweet little family's own decision to engage at risky behavior. If a truck broke down in front of them and they smashed into it, you can bet there would have been a campaign to protect people at work on the road. As it is, there were more motorcycle tickets issued this year, but aside from speed cameras, there's no space to enforce the limit in the most critical areas, so pretty much nothing has changed. 12/19/2014 12:50:44 PM |
