It's February...which means it's "Get Your Hopes Up Now Because You'll Be Depressed By April!" Month for Mets fans. Let's get started...

Harvey, Wheeler, deGrom, Colon, Niese. That's a pretty great group of pitchers if all of them can stay healthy.

Thoughts on potential batting order? Based on last year's stats and what I've heard so far, here's my prediction:

CF - Lagares
2B - Murphy
3B - Wright
1B - Duda
RF - Cuddyer
LF - Granderson
C - d'Arnaud
SS - Flores
P - Harvey/Wheeler/deGrom/Colon/Niese

This isn't an inspiring lineup, but I think there is a lot of potential. There are no stand out stars other than Wright (and even that is based on history and not present), but enough good hitters that this team can put up runs without power. But honestly if this team does well it will be because of the pitching staff.

Quote :
"New York Mets third baseman and captain David Wright criticized pitcher prospect Noah Syndergaard on Tuesday for eating lunch in the clubhouse during the team's intrasquad game on Tuesday in Port St. Lucie, Fla."

According to SI.com and Newsday, while Wright was confronting Syndergaard Bobby Parnell took his plate and threw the rest of his lunch in the trash.

I love the aggressive leadership style.

Good for Wright and Parnell. Mets need Wright to control the clubhouse. Ill probably secretly root some for the Mets once the Braves are officially eliminated from the playoffs at the end of May.

This is so infuriating. Best looking pitching staff we've had in 20 years and *poof* it's gone.

Every team deals with injuries. Mets still have a good staff and a shot at a wild card. Fucking Braves lost 40 percent of their staff in back to back spring trainings.

The Braves will lose 100 games this year so yeah I am pretty down on them. Nonetheless I'm a baseball fan and I like talking baseball regardless of the team. Plus I feel for Mets fans as the past decade has been rough.

Not really, they were looking to trade Gee since he was the 6th starter and then the talk changed to long reliever...but now he's probably got a solid slot in the rotation.

Gee, Syndergaard and Matz are all there. They can fill in Wheeler. I'm more disappointed because I thought he was about to make a huge jump this year after his second half.

Syndergaard will probably start the season in the minors. He might make an impact in August but I'd be surprised to see much of him before then unless another starter goes down.

Additions to the bullpen:
Quote :
"The New York Mets addressed their left-handed relief void Monday, trading for Jerry Blevins from the Washington Nationals and Alex Torres from the San Diego Padres.

Outfielder Matt den Dekker will head to Washington, while minor league right-hander Cory Mazzoni and a player to be named head to San Diego."

Harvey looked great today. So glad he came back to us in good shape. Also, our batters seemed to handle Strasburg pretty well. 2-1 to start the season, against the team many thought would be the best in the NL this year.

Let's go Mets!

Monday's game is questionable since all 3 runs were unearned, but today was a solid win no matter how you spin it.

lol at last night's game. collins ejected, wright hurt, cuddyer hurt, finished the game with a catcher playing 3rd base

at least we got the win. and cuddyer's injury doesn't seem serious. sounds like wright might need time on the DL though

20th win against Philadelphia in the last 26 games. And a nice early season sweep.

Also just realized that 26 of the Mets first 31 games are against divisional opponents. Are all the other teams playing such division-heavy games right now?

Colon has been pretty damn great through 3 starts. 3 wins, 20 innings pitched, 2.25 ERA, 0.80 whip, .200 average against. 1 walk and 15 hits against 18 strikeouts. Also has hit for 2 RBIs in only 6 at bats.

Feeling good.

Quote :
"As for the New York Mets, this is the sixth time they’ve started 8-3 or better through the first 11 games. They finished at least 10 games over .500 in each of the previous five seasons. Three of those seasons ended with division titles -- 1986, 1988 and 2006 -- and another ended with 98 wins (1985).

So if you’re a Mets fan, history seems to look favorably on this team. At least for now."

7 runs in one inning and it turns out they needed every single one.

d'Arnaud and Blevins both injured with broken bones. It's too early for this crap (Blevins has not put a single runner on base in 5 innings pitched this season)

8 wins in a row - and in that time frame we've sent 2 starters to the DL and a (thus far) reliable reliever to the DL. ugh

Nice to have a big time prospect like Plawecki sitting there to be used in case of an injury to your already top young catcher.

System depth is nice but at same time Plawecki was a valuable trade commodity that they can't use for those purposes now.

Leading 5-0 after 6 innings, despite the 3 through 5 hitters (Duda, Cuddyer, Murphy) going 0-8 with a walk.

Eric Campbell has been impressive filling in for Wright. Trade bait?

Campbell doesn't have any trade value. He's a 28 year old AAAA player. But decent for organizational depth.

Over 162 both Wright (obviously) and Flores will both outperform.

7-1 final. Best part of the game is Granderson finally contributing. 3-5, 4 RBIs. Interesting that the leadoff hitter can get that many RBIs but no runs scored. Murphy has got to step it up a bit.

(Also, streak is now at 9)

Gee pitching today, only weak link in the rotation. Imagine what this year could have been with Wheeler.
