for real though, i do think our earlier games with WVU and Cincy will help us with 40 minutes of Papa Johns. This has all the makings of a 1 point win

Well, winning this would make up for the UVA loss. This and UNC are the only chances to build on the currently weak bubble resume (other than making a deep ACC tourney run).

Too many stronger contenders in the ACC to think of us as a bubble team, even if we win out.

How do you think we are on the bubble? We have 1 quality win and a lot of bad losses. The only way we go to the ncaa tournament is winning the ACC tournament.

If we go 5-1 down the stretch we would be in good shape if we can win one tourney game. After watching the last few games though we have almost no shot of that happening. 1-5 seems more likely.

SOS of 4, two top RPI top 50 wins (Duke & Boise St), only one sub-100 loss (WF). I'm not saying we are squarely on the bubble with that, but I would think a top 10 RPI win at UL or UNC would help immensely (along with not losing the other 4 games). A 5-1 record the rest of the way would put us firmly on the bubble, and 4-2 may nearly get us there (just can't see how a 9-9 record in the current ACC would keep you out of the NCAA tourney).

But yeah, our current RPI of 65 clearly isn't very strong and the actual number of losses may look bad to the committee.

Even if we won out, we're not getting in the tournament without at least making it to the ACCT Championship game, most likely.

There are 5 top 12 teams ahead of us in the ACC, and four unranked teams ahead of us that have easier schedules to end the year (except Syracuse, that's tough). No way they take 10 teams from the ACC. We either need to win the ACCT, or win just about every other game on the way AND hope Syracuse bombs, and Clemson, Pitt and Miami have a few WTF losses.

It's a bleak outlook. In NCSU style, we'll hang on until the very end, and then all hope will be lost.

Yeah especially that Georgia Tech game

Quote :
"They lost to us by missing two free throws, and then having us inbound the ball with less than 5 seconds left and hitting a 3 to win. That's some serious Georgia Tech Shit!"

But it didn't. You know that close losses are still a loss, right? Nobody looks back at Sid's years and says, "damn we almost won a lot of those games."

Syracuse isn't going anywhere w/ self imposed sanctions

If we beat Clemson, we have at least a similar resume if not better than they do (only top 50 win vs. Arkansas & two sub 150 losses)

Pitt & Miami are the only ones we have to worry about looking better than/comparable to

We don't necessarily need to be ahead of teams in the ACC standings for the NCAA to select us over them due to unbalanced conference schedules and different out of conference SOS. That being said, we would have to go on a big winning streak to be considered now.

He didn't say that. I think he was saying that it is possible that we go 5-1 for the next six games, even though we've been 3-7 over the last 10 games.... he's saying that we were very close to winning some of those games, we were in almost all of them, and it's possible that if we play up to our potential we can still go 5-1 (although i don't think that's very likely)

UVA
DUKE
ND
Louisville
UNC
Pitt or Miami (maybe-> both have one big win with two potential quality games left to play)

Syracuse won't survive the end of their schedule
Neither will we.

^You're right, I read it with the wrong context in mind. Still think our potential is what we've seen.

Some updated predictions from a few sportswriters:

Stewart Mandel has NC State in first four out:

http://www.foxsports.com/college-basketball/story/ncaa-tournament-march-madness-bracket-projection-ucla-bruins-pac-12-021315

Patrick Stevens has NC State in next 4 out:

"Miami and N.C. State, despite their recent struggles, remain the best candidates to emerge as a sixth NCAA-worthy team from the ACC. But if the tournament started now, both would be making preparations for the NIT."

That was my thought as well. The ACC was setup to have at least 7 teams but us and Miami have shut the bed by losing to the teams below us. Pitt was the other team that may have had a shot, but at this point it looks like 5 is all we are gonna get unless us or Miami decide to stop stinking it up.

Miami, Pitt and Clemson don't really have difficult schedules to finish the season. We need them to lose a good part of those games. Even so, when you have UNC die hard fans wondering if they will make the tourney this year, that gives me some pause.

i don't think it would work like that, would it? i figure they just wouldn't receive a bid at all since they imposed a post season ban.

I have a feeling this will be one of those games where we get punched in the mouth early and then it gets embarrassing. I really hope I'm wrong.

I feel the same way. We suck on the road and Louisville should abuse us inside. Hopefully Lacy and Cat can do damage on the outside, but UL just crushed Pitt and today we see how good that Pitt team is playing. Hope we can keep it close and maybe have a few bounces vo our way for once.
