rjrumfel this doesn't change anything. You still can't shoot a fleeing suspect who is running away from you and no longer a threat. I watched the video a bunch of times and there is no indication the officer is in any distress from being tazed and you never see the suspect drop anything in the footage (that doesn't mean he didn't, but you don't see that part).

Yeah, and the guy that murdered Oscar Grant did actually get charged and convicted (got off pretty light, 2-3 years I think), so that gives me some hope that this murderer may face some legal repercussions.

Of course that article posted by rjrumfel comes from a far right site. They are desperate to find anything to defend the cop.

Hey hey now. Don't put this as me trying to sway this argument. I just find it interesting. I'm still convinced that this cop needs to be charged to the fullest extent allowed. Otherwise things won't change.

The cop had already been tased, and was obviously ok. No threat to his life existed.

And bigman, I think they were arguing that the taser wire got caught around the guys foot while running.

Scott got tased, that much we know. Outside of your wingnut website, is there anything else showing that Slager got tased too? I'm sure if Slager had been tased, his narrative wouldn't be that "the guy went for my taser," it would be "the guy fucking tased me"

Does it fucking matter what he says, if he got tased etc. Dude is on tape, squaring up a shot from 15-20 yards at a man that is running away from him. He then kills the guy and plants evidence. Then he lies in the police report. Fuck him, I hope he enjoys being Bubbas bitch.

Yeah, if he really got tased...that kinda makes it worse. Cause that's a retaliatory killing...he can't pull any bullshit about being terrified or confused...he was just angry. I think we all understand that feeling, and we also understand that, if it happened to us, we'd be headed to prison.

"Second-degree manslaughter charges were filed against reserve deputy Robert Charles "Bob" Bates, 73, in the shooting death of Eric Courtney Harris, 44, District Attorney Stephen Kunzweiler's office in Tulsa said.

"Mr. Bates is charged with Second-Degree Manslaughter involving culpable negligence. Oklahoma law defines culpable negligence as 'the omission to do something which a reasonably careful person would do, or the lack of the usual ordinary care and caution in the performance of an act usually and ordinarily exercised by a person under similar circumstances and conditions,'" Kunzweiler said in a statement."

I still can't believe they had this dude on this type of operation. It makes all kinds of sense to have reserve deputies or whatever you want to call them for public event duty, crash response, etc, but not for undercover gun buying stings, and whatever "violent crimes task force" this old dude was evidently a part of. I also can't believe they're allowed to carry guns, under any scenario. Restricted have you heard of similar programs in our neck of the woods. If so can you compare and contrast?

@ my past department, we had reserve officers. They are teachers, lawyers, etc, but they go through the same exact training that we do. At my current department, we have auxiliary officers that assist on calls, make traffic stops (if they wish) and take low level reports. They are fully sworn, but not allowed to carry firearms. They have access to shotguns in extreme emergencies and go through a quick handgun course should one of us go down and they retrieve our weapon to defend themselves.

As far as being on a task force? That is pretty crazy.

Let's just take all guns away from cops in 2016 because of their poor behavior since like, 2011 (idk)?

We can compare statistics after the fact (and maybe give them back).

Agreed. Seems like both SC and OK are prepping their sacrificial lambs/scapegoats, but not touching any other officer culpable in the crimes/cover-ups.

When I first watched the cell phone video, I also thought the taser wires looked like they were stuck in the cop and not Walter Scott. Even if Scott did use the taser on the cop, I don't see how the cop could use that as justification to shoot him. Cops seem to use tasers nowadays like they're a simple compliance device; it would be beyond fucked up for a police officer to claim that their life was in danger as soon as a taser was used on them.

"Supervisors at the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office were ordered to falsify a reserve deputy’s training records, giving him credit for field training he never took and firearms certifications he should not have received, sources told the Tulsa World.

At least three of reserve deputy Robert Bates’ supervisors were transferred after refusing to sign off on his state-required training, multiple sources speaking on condition of anonymity told the World.

Additionally, Sheriff Stanley Glanz told a Tulsa radio station this week that Bates had been certified to use three weapons, including a revolver he fired at Harris. However, Glanz said the Sheriff’s Office has not been able to find the paperwork on those certifications."

If an addict falsifies a prescription to get some pain pills its a felony and they get thrown in Jail.

If a Sheriffs Deputy falsifies a firearms certification they get.....wait for it....probably nothing.

It looks like Charleston and SC is trying to do everything right by this case. Instead of a hasty decision and political speech like we saw in Baltimore, the DA had a grand jury and they indicted Slager.

^ grand juries are meaningless, they just do what the DA wants, in 99% of all cases.

It wastes less people time to just have the DA do their job, and make a decision.

Unless you just like the government wasting peoples' time and money and a pointless show designed to shield the responsibility of a decision...

He was unarmed, completely innocent, and was murdered by a policeman. It was all on video too. The cop isnt even getting charges thrown at him.

Pretty rough. Do we even know why the cop pulled over and got out? Did someone make a call for this guy? Did he try to run?

Or is that video fake?

If not fake, here is incident where even a body camera didn't do any good.

Nah, he was white, so it doesn't fit into the media narrative of racist evil police, even though the narrative should actually be about police being unaccountable their actions, no matter the race of the victim.

Is flashing your brights a legitimate reason to pull someone over?

Clearly the kid shoulda shown the officer his ID. It's cool to assert your rights and all, but ensure you are aware of your legal obligations too.

What happened to the body camera footage?

If I was that kid I would have give him my license.

Not sure if the shooting was justified or not but the cop seemed to keep his cool until the very end. He was professional and explained eberything. It's definitely not clear what the cop could have done differently tly to keep the situation from escalating.
