I'm not a huge fan of any of the X-Men movies, but I love comic book films and watch them all and hope one day they'll make one in this franchise that lives up to my expectations. The big fight scene at the beginning of DOFP was fucking awesome, but it seems like they blew their load (or perhaps just FX budget) on that scene and barely showcased anyones cool mutant powers the rest of the film. Anyways, here's some cool concept art for (Arch)Angel and a new casting confirmation:

So lets look at the last 4th, 5th of the trailer. The sequence of CJ with archangel storm apoc, and the city being destroyed.......that looks pretty bad. Completely distracting.

I'm down for this. Trailer looks a bit hokey, especially Apocalypse's suit. However, it's cool that they're getting rid of Xavier's hair, and I'm pretty sure that was Kurt in one of the scenes.

Loved DOFP. I will keep optimism on this one, but the severe amount of Jennifer Lawrence (notably _not_ in Mystique costume) makes me feel I am not the target demographic, at least for the trailer.

I think the thing with Jennifer Lawrence is because she's become a lot more popular between First Class and now. Back then nobody knew who she was, but the Hunger Games made her an A-list celebrity, so they are giving her a bigger role than Mystique should have.

Apocalypse looks stupid. His costume is awful. Given there isn't really a way to translate it to live action without looking stupid but I think they could have done better than that. Still, he's no Dr. Doom from the new FF movie.

First Class and DoFP (as well as the last Wolverine movie) were really good. In fact I guess the first Wolverine movie and X3 were the only bad ones, so I'm optimistic with this one.

Hoping to see Quicksilver and Nightcrawler do some awesome fight scenes together.

I was hoping that they would stick to the Apocalypse look that they first had in the teaser to DoFP. I thought that that was perfect for live action, but then they did a complete reversal of artistic direction to the blue Buzz LightYear that they have now.

New trailer. Didn't even know Sophie Turner was playing Jean. Psylocke looks pretty spot on. Arch-Angel looks decent. Apocalypse still looks dumb.

Apocalypse looks like butt, the movie is going to suck just like all the rest of them, but with a couple awesome scenes. Hopefully we'll get more than the 2 good action scenes we got in DOFP

They changed Apocalypse's voice. Added some digitized effects to make him sound more menacing. Its going to help a bit.

The early trailers looked very meh.

I mean, the line, "We will destroy their world. And in its place, we'll build a better one" That is such a terrible line.

"we'll build a better one" Really? That's your dramatic justification for wiping out billions.

I think this one will fall into the category of over the top sequel from the 90s. A production that gets to caught up in CG rather than story-line that was rushed to make money off of its predecessor.

Yeah, but that's sort of my point. That scene was fantastic, as was the opening fight sequence and quick silver part from DOFP. You have these brilliant moments, that are exactly what people want to see, but only one or 2 per movie, and the rest is a let down. People want to see bad ass action sequences with mutants actually using thier powers. 1 or 2 sequences per movie is not enough. I know those parts are more expensive, but in DOFP they spent God knows how much sfx money on Magneto picking up and dropping a baseball stadium, which was just a dumb waste.

Well, it wasn't as bad as I was afraid it would be. That's about the extent of the positive takeaways.

The effects were sub par, there was one scene in particular involving archangel swooping in to grab psylocke that looked like it was done about a decade ago. It looked more like a bad CGI rendering from the matrix burly brawl scene than something from a current movie.

The plot was kind of all over the place, which wasnt unexpected but the worst part was the total lack of motivation for most of the characters. They spent no time in archangel, less on psylocke, and a couple of minutes on storm. Why did they side with apocalypse? Ehhhh, fuck it we'll just try to make them look evilish and hope nobody really cares.

Fassbender gave an excellent performance, as did Macavoy. Jennifer Lawrence looked like she would have rather been doing anything other than acting in this movie. Sophie Turner was wooden as hell.

The best part of the movie was probably the slow mo quicksilver scene.

I'm not sure why they included Jubilee in this film since she did literally nothing.

All in all a disappointment after first class and dofp.

Huge let down, which is unfortunate since I found First Class and Days of Future Past to be really good. McAvoy, Fassbender, Quicksilver, and the very small amount of Wolverine were the only real good parts. Psylocke's costume was at least very accurate though!

Apocalypse just looked awful. Absolutely awful. Not intimidating at all. He seriously looked like an elderly lovechild of Vin Diesel and a smurf. The character of Apocalypse is supposed to be extremely overbearing and imposing, but if some random Egyptian bazaar salesman looks at you and thinks you are a clown, to the point of threatening you with a knife without any hesitation, you're doing something wrong as a villain.

Absolutely agree with you Kurtis on motivations. Outside of Magneto, Apocalypse's horseman had no reason whatsoever to join his side. wtf does Storm, Psylocke, and Angel care about "cleansing" the world of weakness. At least in the comics, Apocalypse used brainwashing/mind control to recruit his followers. And what was up with Psylocke just walking away at the end? Made me think of Cartman -- "Screw you guys... I'm going home".

That being said Magneto was awesome as always. Both McKellen and Fassbender have done a great job with his portrayal in all of the movies. The Wolverine scene was great, it is rare to see him actually going completely berserk and tearing people to shreds with his claws. One thing though -- they know that he's essentially a living killing machine that cannot be controlled... so there only means of containing him is one door and a bunch of guys with machine guns that clearly don't even slow him down? After 10 years of research they haven't learned to use adamantium bullets or even some heavy tranquilizers or something?

Oh and lol on major Apocalypse fail with the nukes. He read Xavier's mind. He knows that the X-men are the only ones that could stop him and that they couldn't be turned. Why wouldn't he point one of those nukes RIGHT AT THE MANSION??

It isn't the greatest. It's better than BVsS barely

I absolutely hate that Mystique is a main character. She's a shapeshifter. She can't do shit against a powerful mutant. We all know this. They shoehorn her in there. Y'all remember the 90s cartoon? The very first episodes was death of morph a shapeshifter xman. The very first episode! They knew a shapeshifter mutant is useless against giant mutant slaying robots and everything beyond that. They tried hard tho.

I like the tic for tat mutant exchange between studio companies . In the comics Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are Magento's children (twins). Marvel studios killed off quicksilver and kept Scarlet Witch. Fox studios kills off Scarlet Witch and kept Quicksilver. Nice Compromise. Now in that comics Mystique is Nightcrawler's mom but that's a moot point cause they faq up Mystique character.

The motivation thing doesn't bother me. I know in reality people's motivation are stupid as hell. So a powerful ass mutant that makes your powers 10x better and turning people into sand otherwise seems like good motivation to me.

Disappointed.

FX were so sub-par, which is shocking with a Blockbuster summer movie like this. They definitely just seemed to shoehorn Storm, Archangle, and Psylocke in there. Sansa Stark is equally terrible as Phoenix as she is at Sansa Stark.

Coolest part for me was the Weapon-X cameo.

I have never walked out of a movie in a theater before, but i seriously considered doing it today at this shit, and when the movie was over i regretted not having done so. This thing was fucking god awful. The script was horrible, the acting was terrible, Apocalypse looked abysmal, and it honestly seemed as if they didn't even bother hiring a fight choreographer. Singer has absolutely no clue how to make these characters and their powers look good in an action sequence. I could forgive a ton in things in terms of a terrible script and acting, if it at least had entertaining action sequences, but they were god awful. The Quicksilver scene was just a worse version of the pretty cool one we saw in DOFP. The opening fight sequence in DOFP was phenomenal, and stands up there with a lot of the best fights from any of the Marvel movies, thats what they need to do more of, but instead they went in the opposite direction, shit sucked.

I get that he was the first mutant, but was he really a mutant, or was he alien? Those things coming out of his head kept throwing me off. Where did he come from? How did he arrive at his mutant powers? I guess maybe they were trying to add mystery too him.

It almost felt like I was watching one of those direct-to-Netflix movies.

Psylocke - what was her motivation for joining team Pocky? I mean we didn't really see how he was able to enhance her powers.

And the last fight scene was confusing. Why, after everyone else's effort, was Jean Grey able to just disintegrate Pocky? So does that make her the most powerful mutant?

And lastly, I now have a hard time watching Mckellen Magneto in the older movies because now, in his past, he killed like a billion people, or at least millions with the damage he inflicted before turning on Apocalypse.

The Apocalypse character didn't do it for me and this movie was only going to be as strong as its villain.

His four horsemen didn't have a strong motivation to join him and outside of Eric Apocalypse didn't exactly have a strong motivation for making the choices he made, almost as if he picked the first three mutants he came across and then found Magneto. I guess he did go to that one place that knew about several mutants so they could point him in the direction of the strongest ones but they end up taking him to a mutant that was crippled in a fight. I'd hate to see the others on their headhunting list.

Striker has a mutant that is so dangerous that he could take out his entire base and he locks him in a cage with one little pin holding the door shut. At least take the extra step of wedging a chair up against the door to his room.

By the battle at the end it felt like I was watching the sequel to Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

This movie was bad, and I generally liked the rebooted series.

As best I could tell (and remember) it made her psi-blade get a little brighter... or longer, I don't know.

Also, at the end of a previous X-Men movie in this timeline didn't Mystique rescue Wolverine from the Weapon X project? Maybe she rescued him, then turned him back over to the program? I guess the real answer is that they didn't plan things out very well.

I didn't think about that - we've seen wolverine use his claws and slice through all types of material in the previous movies. Why not slice through his cage? I guess maybe it is made out of adamantium, or whatever metal his claws are made of.

I believe that in the Weapon X storyline from Marvel Comics Presents (which that sequence was lightly inspired by), the helmet & sensor system attached to him inhibited his ability to extend his claws unless he was deployed on an exercise. So I imagine in the movie, he couldn't pop his claws in the box, but as soon as he was let out, he was able to.

I thought " hey I'm going to make you immensely powerful and you don't have to be a street rat in Egypt stealing apples to live any longer" was pretty realistic motivation for a teen/early 20's person.
