I'm just curious. Me and a couple of guys around my cube were wondering what would happen if we created a call-forwarding loop, where I forward my calls to Bob, Bob forwards his calls to Jim, Jim forwards his calls to Harry, and Harry goes back to me.

If someone called one of us, would this be considered some type of DoS attack once it started? Or do VoIP systems have a way to prevent that from happening?

In theory, yes it is an infinite loop, but most call managers have ways around this. The most common one is simply a hop counter which means that a call can only be transferred X amount of times. There are other ways to avoid this with call routing plans/H.323 pending call count etc.
