I just setup my friends network at his house and he is worried the name I gave to his network will be seen and flagged by his IT dept when he VPNs into his work.
Could an IT dept actually see his home network name? I don't think so, but my network knowledge is limited.
His network name: "wifi4porn" (one of his neighbors had one that is "wifi4work"). Yes, I am 13. 6/3/2015 2:31:03 PM |

They won't see his SSID name. 6/3/2015 2:58:54 PM |

the VPN tunnel is established between his laptop/PC and the VPN server on the corporate network. Everything outside of that tunnel is invisible in a packet trace.
The only way they could see his home network name is if he's desktop sharing with someone at work and his SSID is visible on his desktop, etc. 6/3/2015 3:35:21 PM |

SSID, no. workgroup/local broadcast domain, it depends on the vpn client and your OS. hopefully you didn't set the router's domain to wifi4porn.local or something 6/5/2015 4:51:11 PM |
