Wife and I are putting in build-ins in the living room and I'm going to be running some cables through the floor and back up into the wall. I want to make sure I've planned ahead to be able to upgrade when the time comes.

When do you predict HDMI will become obsolete? I did a few searches and found some stuff on USB-C, but it seemed to be more speculation than anything.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

it will be around for awhile, 2.0 is still new

run it in an oversized raceway and leave a pullstring if you are worried about it

Pull a good cat-6 cable or 2 through and leave it in the conduit, and you can probably get baluns to work with whatever comes out next.

^^ Is the right answer. I just found out about these recently, so you can rerun cables down the road when standards change. Carlon is the "name brand" that seems to be the standard, it's rated for low voltage in-wall cable runs.

Unlike EMT metal conduit which only goes up to 1" diameters, these go up to 2" diameter, and have all the accessories needed too. They're available from a ton of different places too, even Amazon.

For the OP question, HDMI 2.0 is going to be here for a long time to come, but being able to run Ethernet, speaker wire and accessories through the same run are all good things
