Another rough shooting night for Cat, but 12 boards and 8 assists plus 11/12 on FTs was impressive. Caleb was super efficient on offense and Nard Dog pulled down 13 boards.

Check out the box score and look at USA's starters. 7/33 for 22 pts.

Our defense was still largely terrible, and we didn't rebound as well as we should have against a smaller team, but at least our offense woke up in the second half and started moving without the ball.

All in all I'll mark it down as a step in the right direction and move on.

His terrible defense stands out even against our usual bad defensive play.

Cat was more aggressive tonight. I have been impressed with Rowan, he looks like a confident player for a freshman. Hope we get a few blowouts wins soon so we can see Kirk some.

I was not able to watch a stream, but Rowan's numbers over his first two games look great. He definitely does not fill up the scoreboard the way that Wood did, so how do they compare aside from both being goofy white dudes?

So far Rowan is not anywhere near as good of a 3 point shooter, but he is a more complete scorer, I.e. He can actually drive some and hit pull up jumpers. Of course he has only played two games so difficult to gauge his three point shot so far.

From the little I’ve seen (two games), Rowan has got a great pure shot, both from the mid-range and the 3 point line. He’s also got some sneaky athleticism and is a good ball-handler.

He has some mental lapses on defense, but I think the thing holding him back the most is core strength. He's just getting bullied around when opponents drive on him. It’s understandable given his age/height/weight, but I’m worried it’s only going to get worse in ACC play. Hopefully his scoring makes up for it though.

^^ Scott Wood had some abysmal three point numbers at the beginning of his freshman season. You can see Rowan has a good stroke...so I expect his numbers to get better.

And no, I don't think we should ignore the defensive shortcomings of the worst defensive player on our team. Especially since he's going to be playing major minutes now.
