Either way kinda is bullshit some asshole judge decided that the two guys needed more jail sentence after being released. While he could be technically correct according to the letter of the law it almost seemed like he had some personal vendetta for going out of his way to enforce this.

my understanding of the federal minimum sentencing was that the intention was for terrorism, so yeah its probably an overreach that it applied to them, but this is just another example of why mandatory minimums are bad

but none of that give anyone the right to have an armed occupation of a federal building and to make threats that they will use force if needed

also its all moot since these idiots don't even represent the arsonists

^^it actually does prove it to a degree IMO. The vanilla white conservative judge bent over backwards to disregard a clearly written law because it was "cruel and unusual." That's pretty special treatment from a judge, the same judge that would've not thought twice about locking up a black crack user for a mandatory minimum (if there are black people in eastern Oregon, I kinda doubt it)
