I realize that this COULD turn out to be a great class, but the correlation between stars and team success is pretty apparent. Hopefully we have a bunch of Russell Wilson type underrated guys in the class

I don't think it was a great recruiting class. But it was not a failure of a class or anything like that IMO.

Yes, according to 247 we finished one spot ahead of Wake in the ACC. And according to them we had 0 four stars. If you use Rivals, we had 2 four stars and finished 20 spots higher than Wake overall. You can kinda make the rankings/stars look any way you want based on which site you used. Again, using Rivals we've landed 10 four stars in the last 3 years. We landed only 15 four stars in the 8 years before that. Or you could say we've signed 8 top 250 players in the last 3 years while only signing 8 in the 9 years before that. I don't think it's fair or accurate to say we're recruiting poorly. We just are setting the world on fire. Our recruiting has improved under DD. It has not improved by leaps and bounds which is frustrating.

I do agree with E Man here. We aren't recruiting on Wake's level. Our last 4 classes average ranking is 38.75 nationally by Rivals (I have a subscription there so I used their rankings...somebody can compare it to Scout or 247 if they want). Wake's last 4 classes average ranking is 58. That's a pretty large gap.

Great post. Thanks for the info. I try not to get caught up in the rankings stuff, but that post on the other page that basically showed us recruiting at Wakes level was discouraging.

^well you can look at the rankings or different sites and come to basically any conclusion you want and back up any opinion you may have. it is discouraging that we aren't recruiting better and that our recruiting hasn't improved by more. i don't really think we saw much of a recruiting bump after the strong finish to the '14 season...that is kinda frustrating. with that said, i believe DD and staff are doing a solid job recruiting - definitely not a great job. but i do agree...it is frustrating to go 3-5 in the ACC and then look at the recruiting and we're ahead of only the 3 teams we beat.

We have to take the next step on the field before we can take the next step in recruiting. Our 4 star players just got here. Why on Earth would a top player come here and redshirt when they can play right away at an equally successful program?

If they want to sit they will go somewhere like clemson. Some people were upset when we lost a recruit to clemson but you have to have several years of sustained success to get to where they are.

^ that is true. Chicken and egg thing. Some coaches though can recruit even with shitty results although it eventually catches up to them.

i'm gonna have to update this but it turns out my logic was right. its very scientific. bc was the only series that couldn't be predicted by talent trends from year to year. (the blue bars were gone this year) true freshmen who played are missing

He plotted recruiting class rankings across individual classes for our opponents and compared them to ours. NCSU's is the baseline.

Classes ranked better than ours are positive. Classes ranked below ours are negative.

Original premise was that we were losing games because other teams had a bunch of redshirt seniors. Earl thought it was a good idea to show this via this graph rather then compare which redshirt seniors were contributing on teams he was comparing us to. IMO it was kinda flawed because the most talented players from those classes most likely would have left for the NFL after 4 years. Regardless, still think it's an interesting way to compare talent coming into college.

We are more talented then WF, BC and Cuse. Equal talent to UL. Less talented then UNC, FSU, Clemson.
