2008 grand marquis
power seat switch on door....all functions work except moving the seat forward (driver seat). Anyone know if this is a common problem on this platform? Most of what I find is people saying to 'check the switch'
took the seat out, nothing is binding, all looks good from the outside.

Those switches can be a little wonky. My folks have a 2010 Grand Marquis and the seatback recline adjustment stopped working, though they don't care to replace it (it's bolt fucking upright, I don't know how they drive like that). I'd personally just try to replace the switch. $31 from Rock Auto and a 15 minute job.
OTOH my '97 Crown Vic has never had a problem with the switch. You could also check crownvic.net, though I'm not sure if they ever fixed the problem that was keeping them from adding new members (a former mod basically abandoned the site for a couple years, it remained active but no one could join).
