I like what I've heard from Anna Meredith's Varmints.

Finally checking out the new Cult of Luna release. Really enjoying my first spin. I thought I might be burned out on their sound, but they've still got it and I actually enjoy the Julie Christmas guest vocals even if I don't like her separately.

Deftones was on constant rotation this weekend. "(L)MIRL" is one of my favorite tracks this year.

Wow. The Cult of Luna album closer "Cygnus" is one of my favorite songs from them in a very long time. Perfect use of the female vocals.

Liking this a lot more than I thought I would after hearing Brace for Impact on its own.

Also enjoyed Eric Bachmann's new album.

I need to check out that Eric Bachmann. It was on deck but then I got hung up on the Cult of Luna record and ended up moving to Bob Mould's new effort afterward (which was pretty much as you'd expect but still a pretty fun listen)

^^ yep.

Finally checked out the new Deakin last night. At first I just moderately liked it. But, the more I listened, it really grew. Such a relaxing record.

ill give it another shot. My first listen was pretty flat. I did skip their show last Friday (sold my tickets) but I mainly regretted not seeing Yacht.

I think it's like the new animal collective in that it's certainly not the best thing he's ever done, but it's fun and there's plenty of cool stuff on it and it's been unfairly derided by a lot of people

that's fair. I'll give it another shake. My backlog has just been so big, I haven't hung around on something that didn't interest me a lot.

I hear that. I'm kinda stoked to see some of these songs live when I see m83 with tame impala in June. Still can't believe that's happening

Can't believe I'm saying this, but I honestly enjoyed the new Blink-182 track with Matt Skiba on guitar. Haven't said that since middle school maybe? I mean it's still super predictable but I'm not going to deny it got stuck in my head immediately.

it definitely surprised me. Gave it a few more listens this morning.

The last several days I returned to Weezer quite a bit. It honestly gets better with each listen. It's one of the catchiest albums of the year so far.

Other albums that have had my attention:

Dalek - Asphalt for Eden
-Pretty interesting hip-hop. Some of the music has some ambient and shoegaze elements. I really liked it on first listen and it seems like it could be a strong grower.

Returned to the Deakin album several times.

Been enjoying the Aesop Rock album via stream. Will check it out more Friday. Also super stoked for the new Snarky Puppy being released on Friday. Loving the first track that was released and I'm excited to see them for the first time in a few weeks.

The released track is super enjoyable. I wonder if Chino will do vocals here on other tracks or what? This song reminded me of like de-loused era TMV mixed with deftones.

i think this is the strongest new music friday for me so far this year with ^, Haken, Snarky Puppy, Pity Sex, and Aesop Rock..

This Haken album is absolutely on point. It's rare that I nerd out over prog like this these days but, wow.

Also hecka tite. If I liked Deafheaven they would probably sound like this. This album sounds like slow motion ocean tides in twilight.

Actually they're starting a group with Public Enemy and Cypress Hill called Prophets of Rage. Interested to see what they turn out. No Zack De La Rocha though.

I'm confused as to how it isn't Music of 2016? Its music. Its 2016.
