Trailer came out last night- https://youtu.be/Lt-U_t2pUHI
Trailer really didn't do that much for me, but having said that, it is just a teaser trailer and I have full confidence based on their track record, so it will probably be awesome.

Very trippy. It reminded me of Inception. 4/13/2016 8:20:01 AM |

I am hoping Marvel tries to branch out more so that all of the movies do not feel like straight up superhero plots. Having a more Inception-type feel would be interesting. I am just afraid that DC is going to burst the bubble with their poor and reckless planning. 4/13/2016 9:21:52 AM |

I feel like they've been doing a good job in switching up the feel of most of their movies- WWII, spy thriller, heist, space opera. I'm not worried about DC messing it up for the rest of the comic book movies, as long as marvel can maintain the quality that they have had so far, I think they will be fine 4/13/2016 9:30:04 AM |

^^^DC is trying to do too much with too little and rush to catch up with Marvel. Batman v. Superman should have been amazing. It should have been a quality film which all other DC films should strive to be; but it wasn't.
DC made plans for 10 movies before BvS even released (11 if you consider the newly announced Affleck Batman movie). Marvel Phase One and Two each only had 6 films including the end meta film. So DC is trying to pump out 2x the standalone movies that Marvel did when they started.
Maybe I am wrong. All signs point to them not being very organized, though. For instance, they commissioned two different script writers for Aquaman to compete against one another (apparently not too uncommon), but they sent the scripts back to the drawing board before even reading them because executives decided to change the direction of the film.
I just don't think DC has a true vision and they are hoping things settle themselves out.

That being said, I am actually interested in Dr. Strange now (I wasn't really before). FWIW, I still haven't seen Ant Man, though I probably should. 4/14/2016 10:00:10 AM |

is DC making Dr. Strange ? I'm very confused.

\OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH now I get it... you're saying you're worried DC is going to fuck it up for Marvel by making shitty comic book movies....

What? No. He's saying DC is fucking themselves by being too ambitious off the bat, instead of starting with a small slate of quality films like Marvel did. DC is not going to fuck things up for Marvel, no matter what happens. 4/19/2016 1:53:26 AM |

Haha, I didn't expect my comment to get that much traction. Yes, I am saying DC will mess themselves up by being too aggressive. I was also insinuating DC would screw things up for certain Marvel properties. Known Marvel franchises will do fine; there will always be a certain desire for Spider-Man. Lesser-known properties such as Ms. Marvel, though, need a certain level of comic-book movie hype for the company to green-light them and take a risk.
Originally, I thought Doctor Strange would fall under the needs-comic-book-hype umbrella to exist. That's why I originally brought up the potential DC comic-bubble-burst. I now think that Marvel is doing a good job selling it as something not strictly comic book.
I hope that clears up my thoroughly confusing and unnecessary jab at DC earlier in the thread. I am glad we had this discussion. 4/20/2016 10:40:21 AM |

Bttt for this weekend
It's been getting pretty good reviews, I'm excited for it. I'm thinking of actually going to see this one in 3D, which is something I haven't done for any Marvel movie (or any movie in general, in quite a few years), the visuals are supposed to be incredible and trippy, 3D might actually be worth it 11/3/2016 7:25:35 AM |

And the crowd goes mild...
Just finished watching it. It's not horrible, but it is definitely underwhelming and completely forgettable.
Spoilers First, I would say Marvel's biggest issue is casting a villain. They tend to be forgettable. The villain here is the worst yet. They should be getting better at this, not worse.
Second, the humor in this movie is so jarring and out of place. This is my biggest issue. The attempts at humor just break any flow the movie manages to start. I feel like they started with a serious movie then had another director try to find places to sneak in jokes using all the subtlety of a bomb during a moment of silence.
They do slightly advance the plot of the MCU as a whole, but it is very small. You can skip this one unless you are a die-hard completionist. 11/4/2016 1:22:01 AM |

SPOILERS
I'll agree with you on those points and add that I felt it was rushed. Dr. Strange when from being a new student with barely a grasp of how to do the basic sorcery to being an expert fighting against seasoned sorcerers in what felt like the span of a few days. Even though he said it would take years of study and practice. Also, I don't understand what was so bad about the Ancient One using power from the dark dimension. That would be like if it was discovered that HIV could cure certain cancers but doctors refused to use it because HIV was bad.
I will say this though, the fight choreography and visuals were really good. 11/4/2016 12:24:02 PM |

^^ I'm not sure how much time had passed, but it felt like it had to be at least a year or so during his training. That doesn't make sense with kaicinius waiting so long to attack, but they did make it out like it may have taken him a while to fully understand/perform the ritual. When strange sees Christine she makes it sound like he's been gone a while. They could have just put a year later in text but I'm not sure everything needs to be spoon fed to the audience to perceive the passage of time 11/4/2016 4:42:05 PM |

That was part of the point they were making at the end. Not everything is a set-in-stone rigid rule, you have to be flexible, but don't overdo it.
I saw the movie in imax 3d, and it was really spectacular. Possibly the best special effects of any movie i've ever seen.
I agree they tried a bit too hard with the jokes and the timeline was a little too unclear (i def thought it was only about 2 years for his training, but who knows...), but overall i really liked the movie. Thought it was well done.11/5/2016 12:32:28 PM |

I agree with most of the criticisms in this thread, but probably to a lesser degree. The humor was a little forced and out of place at times, but the "actually it's Strange" "maybe, who am i to say" joke was fucking hilarious. The passage of time could have been shown better, but definitely did not feel like it had just been a week or few days. Overall it wasn't great, but not bad either, glad I saw it. 11/5/2016 4:12:44 PM |

Glad I saw this in 3-D, the effects were spectacular and truly made for a trippy, true to the comics feel.
Cumberbatch was the perfect choice for the lead role. I was a bit disappointed in the choice of villain, seemed a bit weak. I know the first movie is usually an origin story, and the villain is secondary, but they should have done more to develop the threat.
Decent movie, I'm looking forward to, hopefully, a Dr. Doom appearance somewhere in this franchise if Fox ever lets the fantastic four rights go. I'm hopeful that will happen given the utter disasters those movies have been for them. 11/6/2016 4:23:02 PM |

You're a fucking idiot.
Edit: Okay, let me expand on why I say that.
This movie establishes that there are multiple universes and that within many, if not all, of these universes are multiple dimensions. It also establishes the possibility of controlling time. These things have huge storytelling implications. You can suddenly explore alternative outcomes for previous stories (your classic "What If?" plots), introduce much more exotic characters, set stories in much more fantastic locales, all kinds of shit.
As far as advancing the metaplot of the MCU goes, this movie takes a huge step forward. We know that one of the Infinity Stones has been in the stewardship of Earth's sorcerers since the time of its first and greatest sorcerer. Earth's mystics are capable of warding off threats from many planes of existence! Wong implies that they understand the Stones quite well, too. Previously, the only working knowledge of the Stones was that they were a means to power, and the only characters who knew that were either a select few Asgardians or a select few space weirdos. It's a tremendous revelation that Earth has had Infinity Stone experts for centuries, maybe millennia. Earth is in much better position to defeat Thanos.
And hey, cosmic beings! The only thing close to a true cosmic being up to this point has been brief glimpses of the Celestials in Guardians of the Galaxy. But Earth's sorcerers are aware of great cosmic powers and can even commune with them, invoke their power. You can't overstate the way this changes the whole damn game!

Also, it's worth pointing out that from a raw power sense, Dr. Strange (I guess once he gets a little more experience) has the potential to be the most powerful of the superheroes in the MCU. 11/7/2016 11:59:46 AM |

Ah, good ol' FroshKiller making an appearance to try to spark some arguments to relive the glory days of TWW with some fake outrage.
Your argument is that this is a huge deal because they introduced some cosmic beings! ...well I guess they did that already in Guardians of the Galaxy. Oh, but this time its on Earth! ...well, I guess there was a human facing those threats in that movie too. Oh, but the Time Stone was introduced! ...well, I guess that is now the 5th gem, so maybe its not that shocking. Oh, but humans can use the infinity gem! ...wait, no, Guardians did that, too.
Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge game changer! Again, unless you are "die hard" about the whole cinematic universe, all you really need to know is that they revealed the 5th stone. 11/8/2016 12:14:36 PM |

Questions about the first post credit scene:
Where in the timeline are they when Doctor Strange is speaking to Thor? At the end of Thor 2 Loki had taken on the appearance of Odin unbeknownst to Thor. Now both Thor and Loki are on Earth looking for Odin. Does this conversation with Thor take place before Thor 3? When did Loki stop pretending to be Odin? Does this conversation mean Doctor Strange will be involved in Thor 3 in some way? 11/11/2016 1:57:05 PM |
CapnObvious All American 5057 Posts user info edit post |
The conversation is definitely after Thor 2 and likely occurs in the middle of the Thor 3 timeline. This would be similar to the Thor teaser at the end of Iron Man 2 (I think) where Shield was monitoring Thor's hammer (aka middle of the original "Thor" movie timeline).
So, yes, I would assume Doctor Strange is in Thor 3 as at least a cameo. I believe Hulk is also in the movie in some capacity.

I enjoyed it. The plot was nothing special but the performances were good and visual effects were incredible. The fights between the Ancient One and Kaecilius were spectacular. Definitely recommend seeing in IMAX 3D if possible.
I agree that it was weird how quickly Strange advanced. The guy running the NY sanctum died in all of 10 seconds, but somehow Strange survived a fight against all three 11/14/2016 10:20:23 AM |

They also did the mid-story teaser of Civil War during the Ant-Man credits. In fact, it wasn't some extra footage scene like we usually get, it was the actual scene from the movie of Falcon saying "I know a guy." Wouldn't surprise me if in Ragnarok we see the full sit down of Thor asking Strange for help. I know hulk is involved in some way as well, but I can't imagine he's coming back to earth that soon. 11/15/2016 3:47:11 AM |

I had no problem with the movie. Doctor Strange is B comic character. Powerful as hell though in the long scheme. However I will say if you're aren't watching this in IMAX 3D then it's pointless. The 3D sets the tone to me of the film imo.
I never cared about the villians in MCU because they ARE secondary. They move the plot and that's their job. Who gives a shit about development? Most of them die anyway. The MCU has one big baddie and that's Thaos. Soooo where the hell is he? I thought the villains in this were actually following him. They just called him by a different name. That would have been an excellent little twist ... but nope.
Doctor Strange comes in and fucks the game up and messes with time which is forbidden. If I was Mordo I would be pissed too

IMAX 3D makes my eyes hurt and generally makes me motion sick. I just can't do it. That being said, if they do Dormammu at some point, it will be a character similar to Thanos that they could bridge several other character movies into. I haven't seen the movie yet but that would be a good direction.
