Kamala seems so self-righteous....and Trump doesn't??? LOL

I think part of it is generally we (especially men) are so unfamiliar with women in leadership positions that when we do see it we subconsciously associate the experience to the annoying mom/aunt/teacher/boss/karen that we've encountered in the past.

I felt like I was falling in love watching that debate, TBH. Very gratifying to finally see such an oratorical smackdown.

emnsk, look who you're comparing her against. She rightly looks great by comparison. Self-righteous? How about just right / correct?

I never said Trump doesn't. I think he's gone demented (which is what I said), and is wildly egoistic. It's funny when you think of him as just being a personality, not president.

Yeah, I actually commented on this quite a while ago when the whole Biden debate happened and we were discussing whether Kamala should replace him. I said that I'm self aware of that, and think her being president (besides the obvious reasons she should be), will be good as it'll normalize it and change the game for women in the future.

Quote :
"^ Go ahead and say it. You think she's an uppity negro."

I don't blame you for saying something this wrong and stupid, cause there definitely are a lot of people out there who do think this way.

I don't know where you all were a year ago or even a few months ago, but it was common for people to think of her as kind of inauthentic or not think much of her, right or wrong, it's what people thought. Her podcast and late night TV appearances, shrugging off serious things as jokes. Now, maybe we put more of a focus on her cause she's a woman, but that's another discussion. Would you say that people think Hillary is an uppity negro?

Just look the comments on this article from 2019:
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/29/us/politics/kamala-harris-2020.html#commentsContainer

As I also said in the other post, some of the stuff you hear about her being a prosecutor makes her seem distasteful, but city politics in general is kind of dark and forces things which don't necessarily reflect on who you actually are. AOC is way more out there making a statement than Harris is, but she doesn't sound coy. But people are a product of their times and that's alright. And of course given how normalized Trump's BS is, he gets some sort of a pass in our collective heads, you see it in the media not covering him 24/7 at this point, basically.

I think a lot of politics is earning the 'benefit of the doubt'. Everyone has these little fissures, some more, some less, but depending on how important you are, you are either given it or targeted for them. Now who's to say who deserves it, but Kamala didn't have that, and now she does, along with the weight of the candidacy.

This is her moment, and for the next 4 years (fingers crossed), we'll get to see her shine, outside of Biden's or anyone else's shadow, and I hope she comes into her own and seizes the moment. Walz seems to support her in that, which is good.

Kamala did good in parts (abortion, policy section at the end), but I honestly think Trump did himself in here. The age and general brain rot clearly showed. He was doing good, maybe winning, until immigration, which should've been his strongest, and he took the bait.

What part of killing a bipartisan border deal that was embraced by the border patrol, for purely political reasons, obviously not caring at all about the actual issue, but only the optics, would have made immigration his strongest point?

"Where do you get your info? Because it seems like the vast-majority of trump supporters get their info from random hacks and grifters on social media and blatantly biased "news" outlets like Fox and NewsMax. While most "mainstream media" has some issues, they seem miles ahead of the places lots of the "right" get their "info"."

I 100% don't do the right wing grifter internet pundit thing. I won't watch someone like Charlie Kirk, or other people in that genre where they go debate policy with 19 year old college students and make them look bad. I got into a phase for a while where I started watching left wing guys who seemed intellectually honest enough to where you couldn't guess their take on a topic ahead of time. I actually used to really enjoy watching Destiny on YouTube because he presented his opinions without using whatever focus group approved talking points that DNC affiliated people coalesce around ("JD Vance is WEIRD", "Harris/Walz is about joy", etc). But I stopped after Trump got shot in the ear and Destiny said that the fireman who was killed in front of his family deserved to die, and so does anyone else who would go listen to the guy.

Anyway, as for news sources, I mainly read and watch a lot of the mainstream news, but whenever it's available, I always go find transcripts of hearings or full recordings of interviews or read full filings from the courts, ESPECIALLY when the article appears to be fucking with quotes or leaving words or context out. That gives me a pretty decent idea of what actually happened. I will also occasionally watch one program on Fox and one program on MSNBC just to see how the extremes report the same things, but it's very rare that I watch cable news aside from that.

The main thing is that you just can't trust any outlet to be totally honest to you, especially once youve seen them coordinate, and I think you have to verify stuff that they say.

It is also important to respect people who feel differently than you, even if you genuinely feel that their candidate will destroy the country. As long as they do more than parrot someone else's points and actually research, (a good example is people who still claim 7 Years later that Trump didn't explicitly disavow white supremacists in Charlottesville because cable news cut a sentence out of his reply and claim he called them fine people. All it takes is one watch to stop making yourself look dumb.) I have no Ill will for any Harris voter, and am friends with plenty of people who are planning to, and my friends are fine with me looking at Trump.

And I seriously think that's cause we all know deep down that neither of them is going to ruin the country, because neither of them is gonna be running shit if they win.

Explicitly, given the current binary choice, what is it that you find more appealing about Trump?

I feel like a lot of people say they already know how he's going to govern because of his first term. But he learned a lot about what didn't work for him during his first term, and the criticality of appointing sycophant loyalists to avoid disruptions of his worst impulses. Further, if re-elected, there would no longer be ANY pressure to play nice with anyone to conceivably support another election bid (because of term limits), so the guardrails will be fully off. Congress and the courts have proven spectacularly unwilling or incapable of checking him, so don't pretend like he's not going to break a bunch of shit and abuse power at every turn. This is the person who represents your views and what you want to vote for? You can say they both suck and whatever, but you still appear to be leaning toward Trump. Why?

I don't actually want to put words in your mouth, but I'd appreciate some insight to your thought process.

^ I don't want to put words in his mouth either, but I think his last paragraph speaks for itself in answering your question. "Neither of them 'will run anything anyway', so how does it matter, pick the one that is more disruptive or on whatever economic policy you may have or whatever"
The objective evidence doesn't matter cause the feeling inside is that this is all a smokescreen, to some

Quote :
"I 100% don't do the right wing grifter internet pundit thing. I won't watch someone like Charlie Kirk, or other people in that genre where they go debate policy with 19 year old college students and make them look bad."

I saw that come up on my recommended even after I removed it. I refuse to even click on it, I can't do that to myself.

Yeah, well we don't all think that. You don't believe a President with a personal vendetta and mostly unchecked power is going to be capable of fucking up some shit? It's self-evident. I'm sorry, but both-sidesing it isn't a logically compelling argument for voting for Trump. Just be honest.

That's it. That's Donald Trump's platform, from his website. At least it is more coherent than his normal word salad...

So Trump supporters, what specifically do you support from his platform? And why do you think Donald Trump is the best person to bring about these changes. And if you honestly believe in this platform, please explain why so much of Trump's campaign is focused on division, personal grievances, and misinformation.

Because honestly, much of that platform seems to be thinly veiled racism against immigrants. Or attempts to nationalize a "patriotic" curriculum for kids. Or trying to protect old and outdated institutions that have made Trump and his friends rich. Or populist ideas, which quite honestly, run contrary to Trump's demonstrated record.

Hello EMCE,

Just wanted to say that I'm sorry if it came off like I meant anything nasty in the comment about Kamala, and clarify that it isn't what you may have thought at all.

Like I said, "I don't blame you for saying something this wrong and stupid, cause there definitely are a lot of people out there who do think this way.", and perhaps given me being a bit verbose online, I wasn't able to communicate that properly.

I really despise when people say "underhanded" things or add 'connotations' to stuff, whether it's about race or anything to bully someone, in general and from personal experiences with me and particularly how I've seen a sibling of mine be treated before. And so, to be accused of that really strikes at my core, it's the opposite of who I am. That being said, I'm sorry for calling you an asshole, it was unnecessary.

That's all, I hope you have a good day.

Perhaps? XSMP would routinely attempt to goad me into responding to him on the boards. Then when that failed, he would take to PMing me about the same ish that failed to garner a response publicly. One thing that DID seem to put an end to that foolishness was putting those silly ass PMs of his right back into the public space.

Apparently, Trump is going to meet with Zelensky on Friday. This is a day after Zelensky met with Biden and Harris. This is their first meeting since Trump was impeached for trying to extort Zelensky in order to help his 2020 campaign.

What do you think the point of this is? A photo op? What would Zelensky even want to meet with that shitgibbon ?Trump is just a candidate, and not the president. He should not really be brokering any "deals" on behalf of the United States.

Zelenskyy has to plan for any eventuality. The conflict with Russia doesn't end after the US election regardless of eventual declared winner. I'm sure he doesn't actively WANT to meet with Trump. Just one of those things he has to do as a leader.

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/30/us/politics/trump-georgia-hurricane-helene.html

Quote :
"“The governor’s doing a very good job,” Mr. Trump said of the state’s Republican governor, Brian Kemp. The problem, the former president insisted, was that Mr. Kemp was “having a hard time getting the president on the phone.”

Mr. Trump, who wore a red “Make America Great Again” cap along with his trademark blue suit and long red tie, added: “I guess, uh, they’re not, they’re not being responsive. The federal government is not being responsive.”

But earlier on Monday, Mr. Kemp himself told a different story. He said that he and Mr. Biden had spoken the night before, and made clear he appreciated the president’s responsiveness.

“He just said, Hey, what do you need?” Mr. Kemp said. “And I told him, you know, we got what we need. We’ll work through the federal process.”

Mr. Kemp said that Mr. Biden offered “that if there’s other things we need, just to call him directly — which, I appreciate that.”

The anecdote from Mr. Trump was revealing less for its dishonesty than for what it highlighted about his approach to federal disaster relief. As president, he viewed federal aid through the prism of his personal politics, threatening to withhold money from governors of blue states whom he saw as enemies, and promising “A-plus” treatment for his allies.

The Trump administration proposed cutting the budget of the agency responsible for disaster relief, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and his top officials diverted money away from FEMA to deal with immigration enforcement. FEMA was understaffed throughout Mr. Trump’s presidency and, until the coronavirus pandemic, he did not view the agency as a priority for funding. He instead viewed the Homeland Security Department, which oversees FEMA, solely as an immigration enforcement agency."
