How busy is your quiet little beach community in October mid/late October?

Any tips on house renting? Just grind VRBO?

Mid/Late October is a great time to visit. Businesses for the most part are still sorta operating on their summer hours. It's not crazy crowded and it is generally still warm enough to enjoy the beach and boating. GREAT fishing.

Rental rates can vary. Some places are still using their summer rates and some are using their off season rates during October. So it definitely helps to compare rates.

October is also a really popular month for weddings down here. Mine is going to be late July, which pretty much cancels out having an outdoor wedding.

However, October is also a big hurricane month. So when planning a vacation don't be surprised if a hurricane decides to pop up and fuck things up for you.

Pretty much all of it. Although, I mostly surf fish, and fall is a great time for surf fishing. Plus you can drive on the beach in the fall, so it makes it easier to get your fishing gear on the beach.

^^^We were able to rent a place on Sunset Beach for a month from mid-October to mid-November for what it costs for a week in July. It was great. Played lots of golf, did some fishing, and felt like a local, if only for a little while.

Full disclosure, my dad and my inlaws stayed the entire month, and me, my wife and little girl went ever weekend for 4 weekends straight, with one long weekend in there.

Sawahash pretty much nailed it, but I also like Red Fish and Amos Mosquitos in AB. Wednesday nights is locals night. Used to be buy one get one entree, but I think they changed it to 40% off back in the fall. Of course that deal is only good up until May.
Shucking Shack is ok too. They've got decent beers on tap.

The pier house is open. Haven't been there yet, but I heard its good. The round-a-bout is open, some people dont know how to use it yet, but we're getting there. The Publix is open.

Oh yeah, forgot they were working on that Publix last time I was down. That Food Lion won't know what to do with itself now.

Where the hell did they put a roundabout?

People bitched about the one in EI, but it's not that bad. I drive a school bus around it 4 times a day. It's easy to navigate.

To the question of which wings is the best....don't fucking go to wings. Support the local surf shops. They might be more expensive, but the quality of the stuff you get will be better and last longer.

Are they repairing the Crab Shack? I saw it got pretty fucked up from the hurricane. We'll usually try to stop in there once while we're out there on vacation late summer.

Shibumi shades are becoming popular. It worked pretty well for us on the days we had wind, but there were 2 days where the wind wasn't coming from a consistent direction, if it was blowing at all.

So beach house we’ve stayed at for the week has had ac problems all week. First half of the week it would get to 84 in the house in the afternoon. Now it’s better after two repairmen visits but still creeps up to 76 at night.

Ac repairmen have visited three times. What could we expect in terms of consideration from the rental company?

I would guess not much since you stayed all week despite the issues. So it’s not like you can claim the place was uninhabitable. Probably depends on how much of a fuss you make and how much crap the agency wants to listen to. Also, check your rental agreement.

^ Wrightsville has opened beaches for exercise/walking/non-stationary activities, but has left public parking lots closed so pretty much restricting their use to locals/vacation home owners. Do you think that will happen in your neck of the woods anytime soon?

Yeah Bogue Banks is opened back up to residents only. They haven't opened up public parking yet (unless I've missed that announcement), so it's basically only people who live on the island or people who know places to park on the island that can go to the beach.
