They are running the fiber in front of my house right now. For those that have it in the triangle, what are the costs and options? I can't seem to find a clear cut answer. It looks like $70 a month. I find it hard to believe they don't have lower tiers.

^ wouldn't be worth it to run fiber if you could get lower tiers. Also I think with AT&T's $70/month plan you're consenting to them tracking all your activity for advertising right? $90 without tracking I think?

AT&T Gigapower is definitely more expensive than TWC. When i cancelled AT&t to switch to TWC (their 300Mbps was the same price as AT&T's 50Mb), they transferred me to a guy that was able to match TWC's pricing on their 50Mb tier (which is one of TWCs cheaper plans).

Also the Gigapower modem/router had no DMZ mode, and flakey port forwarding if this is a consideration, and it had no way of using a custom DNS server on the router settings. Another thing to keep in mind is that AT&T, for their advertised prices, scans all your network traffic to sell to advertisers, you have to pay $30 to opt out of this (read the fine print).

Wow so fiber internet costs more than cable internet? I think you mean uVerse.

[Edited on May 26, 2016 at 4:35 PM. Reason : ^ also the tracking (which i just mentioned) is only on their Gigapower fiber service, not uVerse ]

It's $70 per month for the first year then it jumps to $100 per month (I think). It's an extra $30 per month if you don't want a data cap. You don't get the promotional rate at all if you don't consent to tracking and injection of targeted ads. You also share bandwidth with your TV which is something to keep in mind if you have multiple TVs going at the same time. You're also locked into a yearly contract with a hefty early termination fee.

Personally, I think it's a bad deal.

I can't find anything confirming that price jump after a year. Can you?

I can't imagine that many of us will break the 1TB cap, unless you have someone at home streaming/downloading video 24x7?

Really? It looks like the offer DirectTV paired with the Gigapower, not regular uVerse...so I don't think those services would be sharing bandwidth.

It's $180, but it's prorated per month. Don't think you can expect someone to run fiber to your house without some sort of contract

Not the best deal, perhaps. But it's not like many people have options for fiber service at this point. You take what you can get if you want fiber. Thankfully for me Google Fiber is coming my way

I just signed up they ran the fiber to my house wednesday and will be doing the install tomorrow. I only signed up for internet for now will look into TV come football season. $70 dollars a month with a lifetime price guarantee and dropped to $60 for going with paperless billing. Will have to speed test it once I get everything up and running. Will see how the data cap goes but adding tv later removes that data cap so thats probably what will happen at some point anyways.

Figured it was too good to be true, not only when I called did they tell me that $10 off for paperless was BS but they told me no one actually ever setup my install for this past Saturday so now I have to wait till this coming Saturday to get internet because they cant do it if people arent home and they dont do any evening installs.... supposedly they are gonna get me a hotspot today to use for the rest of the week but we shall see.

They pulled the fiber for my install off the pole. I gave my dad strict instructions to have them run through the existing conduit (was out of town) and of course they cut into my fucking siding and made a garbage surface mount.

The trash quality of the install was only second to dish network. I've had the service almost a year with no hiccups, but my tenants wouldn't notice. They only use wireless for browsing and netflix.

Anyone able to get to over 150 Mbps on WiFi with Gigapower? I get 600+ when connected directly to the router but not on WiFi.

Also, the price does not change after 12 months, the contract goes out. The price is guaranteed for 24 months.
https://www.att.com/shop/internet/gigapower.html

1 Gig Internet

Internet speeds up to 1Gbps
$29 a month ongoing discount for Internet
Waived installation ($99 value) and equipment fee ($7/mo. value)
2-year price guarantee with qualifying service (includes wireless)

They will fuck your bill up somehow. Do not believe anything that their ads say they do what they want and you have to fight like hell to get it fixed. It reminds me of dealing with Sprint PCS in the early 2000s.

I had my router set to choose a channel automatically, but I chose a manual channel based on site scan and it increased my b/g/n speeds by 5x (20Mbps -> 100 Mbps).

I also recently moved to an area with substantially fewer wireless networks. Kind of weird if more people reduced their wifi network power output, we'd all probably be able to get faster wifi speeds...

Could not agree more. Have not had two bills the same dollar amount since we started with them a year ago, no overage charges, just a randomly billed amount every month that they can never explain to any kind of satisfaction.

I consistently get over 200 mbps on TWC standard package now. I am not sure if anything faster than that would be noticeable, especially considering that most sites have a shitty response/load time.

There's webpage load times, and there's file download times.

I don't have Gigapower just yet, but you're deluding yourself by equating TWCs internet service to fiber.

A lot depends on routes too. I swear a lot of websites loaded faster on my 45mbps att service compared to 300mbps time warner, but I have no real proof.

Ive also found att MUCH more willing to play ball with negotiating prices.

AT&T just lit up the fiber in my neighborhood. They have sales staff going door-to-door trying to get people to sign up. They ones I spoke with are throwing out numbers that I'm skeptical about and it's been hard to pin down the details of their sales pitch.

They told me:
$135/month for two years locked in plus taxes and fees
for 1 gbps internet
unspecified U-Verse HD TV service
free install which includes up to 6 network drops inside the house ( )
no extra HD fees
no equipment fees with whole-house DVR options for up to 2 TVs. I think it's an extra $7 per month per TV for additional TVs
Early termination fee for the first year ( $15 fee per month remaining)
Can cancel service at no cost in first 30 days

Anyone had experience with the door-to-door folks? I'd like to hear from you if you have. Their numbers don't match AT&Ts shitty, slow website. Plus, some of what they're promising seems too good to be true. If they'll really do six network drops in my house as part of the free install, that's worth at least $600 right there.
