^^^The butterfly is fucking tricky to get right, and is considerably more challenging than any other swimming stroke.

Yep. 100M of Fly is pretty tough, but 200 or 400 is just exhausting.

How about that Bahamian that dove across the finish line to beat Allyson Felix? Normally I'd say she won on a technicality and her win was tainted, but it looked like she was already stumbling before she thought about diving head first across the line.

Phelps has also appeared in 2 more Olympic Games than Bolt, winning 6 Golds in 2004

Not true. Bolt appeared in the 2004 Athens (he did not medal), 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, and 2016 Rio for a total of 4 appearances.

Phelps appeared in all of the above plus Sydney 2000 (did not medal) for a total of 5 appearances.

that the shelflife for swimmers is much longer than sprinters

making his 3 straight golds in the 100 meter that much more impressive

Oh, are we using longevity as a demerit, now? Phelps started his Olympic career at age 15. Bolt started his Olympic career at 17. They'll both be in their 30s when the games are done.

From last page:

Even if you were to limit Phelps' medals (which is a stupid thought exercise, but whatever) to just the freestyle 100 and 200 plus freestyle relays, he'd still have 7 Gold, 1 Silver, and 2 Bronze. Bolt (100, 200, and relays) would have 7 Gold as of today.

You can personally be more impressed with sprinting, but that's about it. Otherwise you're just bending logic to fit your opinion. I mean, you're sitting here giving Bolt a pass for not making a final in 2004 while simultaneously trying to dismiss around 20 fucking Olympic medals because they're "kinda similar"

he's apparently doing longevity and medals adjust for sport. something like 1 sprinting olympics = 2 swimming olympics. same for medals and events.

^^^ care to point out where I've ever mentioned their personalities?

it's also pretty adorable that you two have decided to become a tag team

let me hold your hands (again) through this one:

I've said they are the two greatest Olympians of their generation

you've decided to pretend that you're personally insulted by me favoring Bolt over Phelps

I happen to find the athlete who has done something unprecedented in the premier event of the Summer Olympics (and one of the biggest sporting events in the world) more impressive than a ton of medals in a sport that isn't nearly as big/important

I also find running fast more impressive than swimming fast because not everyone has the opportunity to become an elite swimmer

that make it easier for you?

I start to worry about Team USA (basketball) now. They are gonna face Argentina, Spain, and Croatia potentially consequentially. Toughest path since 2004. Hope Coach K is gonna have a happy ending of his national team coaching career!

Apparently that didn't even really matter. What counts isn't the first part of your body to cross the line, but your torso. I had no idea that was the rule, but the announced talked about it a bit after that event.

Phelps has 2.5x as many gold medals as anyone else. If Bolt wins his last 2 events he will move into a 5 way tie for 2nd with 9. If that happens people with 9 gold medals will include 1 in gymnastics, 1 in swimming, and 3 in athletics.

But it's swimmers who can win Dozens of medals!

Bro, big difference between potential and actual. Potentially, I could be a totally ripped life guard, but I'm not because water is stupid and science is better.

Isn't running and swimming basically the same thing, you're just moving your limbs differently to propel yourself through different mediums.

kerri walsh jennings was the most dominant olympian ever. she just lost her first olympic volleyball match ever in a sport where you have to win a ton of matches just to get 1 gold. but if she was like phelps she would have played on the indoor volleyball team as well as tennis doubles which is pretty similar to beach volleyball.

She's good, but too arrogant at times. She had a habit of fixing her glasses and stalling matches when things started to not go her way. She also said that she would whoop the Brazillians on a normal day. Not that everyone has to be a gracious loser, but I don't care for her attitude.

^ To be the best in the world at something, I'm sure you have to have a ton of self-belief.

I did get that vibe in the match from her though.

Let's also declare that no matter how many more times beach volleyball is held at the Olympics, Copacabana Beach will be the best venue for it ever.
