Coming to Netflix tomorrow (15th), looks good

Binged. Pretty watchable, some story flaws and assuming some things explained more in future seasons. Felt like ET but if Stephen King wrote it.

I liked it, but wanted to like it a lot more than I actually did. They largely nailed the look and feel. The pacing was a bit slow at points. I wonder if future seasons will be a continuation, or an anthology thing like True Detective/Fargo/whatever?

I've got one episode left, and I've really enjoyed it. Really like all the 80s references, I think the acting and cinemetography are really good, really like the feel of the whole thing. Very nostalgic, brings me back.

Oh yeah, discovered the Duffer Brothers who created, directed, and wrote a lot of the episodes are from Durham, born in '84 (iirc).

Being 36, this show puts me in the prime of my childhood, however I wonder how today's teenagers view this show. So many strange things for them to soak in - pay phones, cassette tapes, walkie talkies, playing outside, film cameras.

Love the setting, but having a little trouble getting drawn in, I'm on episode 4.

They are like the parents in many horror movies or 80s movies about kids.

He ain't slow. And he explains in one of the episodes that he has some disorder that causes his teeth to come in slowly, or something like that.

Finished, really excellent. I think it could have used just a touch more comedy though.

I enjoyed it. I thought it fell apart a bit at the end with how it tied everything up, or attempted to.

The EW review hit the nail on the head though. This show was expertly crafted to pull on every 30something heartstring from the 80's that could possibly exists - the music was straight up John Carpenter, the font of the cover was straight up Stephen King - hell, the name of the show even sounds like Stephen King. The leading female looks like a cross between a young Karen Allen and Heather Langenkamp. The Stephen Spielberg tie-ins are obvious.

But still, good show. I guess there's going to be a season 2?

Hoping season 2 to help clarify some things.

--Spoilers--

So not sure if missed things below but questions/comments:

1 - Eleven's contact with the monster opened up some sort of rift between the two worlds. Seems the main rift was the one at the lab, that was always open, but then other rifts could open randomly? Like in the tree, and the wall of the house. No explanation on how/why those open or why the original one opened?

2 - What was up with Eleven going into that water tub in the first place? What was trying to be accomplished? Who was the weird foreign language dude she encountered?

3 - Overall purpose for their experimentation with Eleven and if it was intended to open that rift or a byproduct? Not sure if I missed that. Obviously the mother they showed was who she was taken from.

Not sure if the show requires much thought or just something you take at face value, and was fun 80's nostalgia. If they have a real plan/idea for the show in the long run it could set up really well, if it is popular and they are like "oh shit guess we better write another season" it could get pretty dumb if they don't have a plan where this is all going.

1. Don't really know, but they did mention that all of the "portals" were within a few mile radius

2. I think it was for sensory deprivation, she could concentrate more when she wasn't using other senses.

3. They showed the scene where she somehow got into the head of someone and broadcast the conversation over the speakers, so i think the purpose was to spy on the commies.

the foreign language guy was a russian speaker, it was a weak attempt to show why they the military was researching this as a weapon

we finished it last night, loved it. All the kid actors, and the sheriff were excellent. Winona Ryder plays a crazy person a little too convincingly.

Also, Mike's dad was pretty fucking epic.

Great show. Totally binged this Sunday and Monday. Read somewhere that the Duffer bros (from Durham!) consider the next season more of a sequel to the first and intentionally left some questions unanswered so that sounds promising.

But that was it, you didn't say you enjoyed it or disliked it.

But I feel like there are lots of things I enjoy that are complete wastes of time.

Finished it today..unknowingly. I didn't realize episode 8 was the last one until it was over.

QUESTIONS: (SPOILERS)
1. At the hospital in the last episode, the sheriff gets into the cars with the bad guys. Is he in kahoots with them now?
2. Who was he leaving the food for?

I was really impressed. I thought a lot of the acting was excellent (especially by L) except for the couple that was friends with Steve. One of my favorite parts were the parallel stories and how they all eventually converged. I was curious how they were going to pull it together but they really did it well.

****SPOILER*****

The only thing that pissed me off a little was that the monster sustained enough injury when attacked by the trio that it was bleeding all the way to the school. A baseball bat and six shooter caused that injury but the army of semi automatic weapons barely slowed it down at all.

It looks like L is alive and the captain is aware of it. I'm curious if she has to stay in the upside down world to keep the monster at bay.

Yeah, but presumably the fire did not create the blood since rarely does in a situation.
