Not only am I getting a ton of random spam calls daily (I hear this is really common now), I'm also running into something else really bizarre.

People will call me and/or text me from a given number. I usually don't answer, but I've gotten so many goddamn calls I've started calling/texting back that same number. When I do this, it's clear that I'm no longer communicating with the same number who contacted me in the first place. Suddenly I look like the idiot because I'm asking total strangers why they called me and they're telling me wrong number.

Not sure if related, but a few months back I also kept getting called by a woman who was dialing another number and somehow it was always redirecting to mine.

Anyone seen this? Is this some sort of spoofing? I'm on Republic if it matters. I don't think I've been on the CO, though I don't have a detector.

Sounds like you gave your contact info to some spammy-ass website

republic wireless customers have 2 phone numbers, you can have them change your other one to see if that helps

You can't beat it other than just blocking receipt from any numbers not programmed into your phone, which is difficult to do for a work phone.

Concrete action on this is the only real hope:

Whether you answer them or not, it doesn't bother you to constantly be interrupted by spam phone calls?

They also spoof the caller ID so they often appear close enough regionally that they could conceivably be people needing to contact you for a business interaction. That's what makes it hard.

The problem needs fixing.

^

I sometimes get 5 spam calls a day. Sometimes in meetings. It's often an area code in which I live (even though it doesn't match my number's area code) and could conceivably be a doctors office or co-worker or some shit.

If it happened as often as ^ it definitely would. I might get 1 per day...probably less, so no big deal. My life is simple enough that I usually know when I'm expecting call and will risk picking up a spammer's call, otherwise ignore. But yeah that spoofing shit definitely makes it tricky.

Do you people not have something like

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.callapp.contacts&hl=en

or

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrnumber.blocker&hl=en

on your phone? I wouldn't install multiple apps like that though, as there will be too many notifications when call comes in.

I tried one like that, but it never had data about my incoming calls so I got rid of it.

I've been getting the "card protection services" calls like this off and on for years now. Sometimes I'll go six months without one and think that maybe it's over and then I'll get 10 in one week.

Just got a voicemail about a guy who has asked to fix my ice machine (I don't own an ice machine).

If I were to call back to tell him he has the wrong number I would now be calling someone else. This is such garbage
