Most of the country opposes the orwellian debate Rules but I'm surprised the number is only like 55%. Does the other 45% realize that if a party is at 85% in the chosen polls, then we are saying there's not even going to be a debate at all. In that case the ruling party controls the polls and declares itself 85% to crush the opposition. Also, chiildren in school are taught that there is only one party and media is controled by. that party and continuouslt pushes its narrative. That's not very different from what's going on now.

Five is actually a great amount of candidates for robust policy debate without alienating the 91% of the country who don't support trump or clinton.

Just when I thought you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!

https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/2000/01/07/15-poll-support-required-for-a-spot-in-fall-debates/53e0ea2a-4ab7-4208-a53f-6f5a0d40dabb/

I just learned the story behind what led them to make the ruels the way they are now. Ventura was polling at 3% and they let him in the debate. He ended up winning the election. A few years later the rules were updated to ensure they could keep the presidency forever.

This is so stupid. This morning the Hofstra University dance team and marching band were performing in the street on the news as part of the pre-debate festivities. This is a debate, not the Rose Bowl.

Its over. Jill has been removed by police.

Tell me why they can manage to have two debates and like 16 candidates for the republican primary but they can't have 4 for the general election? Ok. The rules are the rules so why not have a JV debate at 7 where stein and johnson get the same format and same stage to debate on CNN before trump and clinton?

70% of the country wants this. You cannot support the structure and also claim to support democracy.

I think that would just feed the media bias narrative that Trump spreads

A buzzer might help.

Although I thought the moderator did a good job this last time. You want them to actually "debate" vs seeming like a scripted QA. With just 2 people, something more interactive is better IMO.

I think these couple simple rules would be the most beneficial and fair, though they would never agree to them:

1) When it's not your question your mic is turned off
2) When it is your question you get a warning beep at the "time's up" mark, and then your mic turns off 10-15 seconds after that

^^ yeah i thought the back and forth was good.
^ naw i think it's silly to turn off anyone's mic, for any reason. Let these people go back and forth...you know, debate. Otherwise as ^^ pointed out, it's more of a q&a.

[Edited on September 27, 2016 at 1:32 PM. Reason : turning mics on and off sounds like a recipe for disaster too from a management perspective]

Keep track of how long each goes over their time. For every minute they go over in total, the moderator makes them respond to one sexual assault scandal.

[Edited on September 27, 2016 at 3:41 PM. Reason : Hillary would answer for Bill obv]

Giving that extra time to the person who spoke less at the end, unanswered, would actually be a pretty great incentive for them to keep to the time limit

Or, for every minute they run over, a 3rd party candidate gets to speak for 1 minute.

Is it the moderator's job to stop a candidate from burying themselves? Cutting Trump off would have only helped him yesterday.

No studio audience would be good.
