^^ join the conversation then. By all means vent but I do think we have had some pretty good dialogue as to why Trump won and how to address it... as well as giving him a chance to mess up before we accuse him of doing so.

The trump votes were mostly protest votes...protesting hillary.

Most of the blame goes to the people who supported the only person on the planet who trump could have beaten.

Protest votes in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Ohio?

Nope, those were voters who actually were listening to him speak about what he wants to do with their lost jobs.

The media was talking about two things:

1) He's a bigot, racist, etc. blah blah blah
2) She's going to win easily

From Trump's 100 days:

Quote :
"....
* FIFTH, I will lift the restrictions on the production of $50 trillion dollars' worth of job-producing American energy reserves, including shale, oil, natural gas and clean coal.

* SIXTH, lift the Obama-Clinton roadblocks and allow vital energy infrastructure projects, like the Keystone Pipeline, to move forward

.....

American Energy & Infrastructure Act. Leverages public-private partnerships, and private investments through tax incentives, to spur $1 trillion in infrastructure investment over 10 years. It is revenue neutral

....

Restoring Community Safety Act. Reduces surging crime, drugs and violence by creating a Task Force On Violent Crime and increasing funding for programs that train and assist local police; increases resources for federal law enforcement agencies and federal prosecutors to dismantle criminal gangs and put violent offenders behind bars.

"

by doing what?

other than making it a National Park, which I'm not sure he can do because it's on Indian land.

so that's crappy what we did to the Indians...I would think we could re-route the pipeline.

But if he signed some executive order (the only power he has now at this point), it would get overturned by Trump.

Well, he's from Chicago. Was probably pulling for the Cubs, anyway. Unless of course you were talking about Phife Dawg, but that's just sad.

But I all seriousness, the army core of engineers could hold it up, but I'm not exactly sure how.

Honestly, he really just needs to get a justice on the court. Don't think he'll be able to do that, either, though, and that fucking sucks.

His signature piece of legislation, and his legacy of affordable health care will be gone in a few months, so it would be nice if he showed a little hustle these last few months.

Starting to tweet again. Looks like he's dismissing the mass, rampant, visceral opposition to his fact-free, xenophobic, sexist campaign. A president that lost the popular vote that had 52% of people vote against him can't afford to dismiss opposition this way-- this is how fascism starts, failure to reach across the aisle when you don't have the will of the people behind you.

Who the fuck needs the "will of the people"/"popular vote mandate" when you have both fucking houses of congress? He's got plenty of capital to spend, not that he even needs it with control of both houses.

We're wayyyyy past the point of *thinking* that he might "be able to do that." That ship sailed 8 months ago when Obama nominated Garland and the GOP controlled Senate brilliantly refused to do shit about it. Obama is as lame duck as they come. How are you *thinking* that might even be a possibility at this point?

I'm in compete agreement with you. I'd just wish he'd use his popularity and bully pulpit to make it happen.

I KNOW he won't. But I'd like to at least see an effort. It's a total pipe dream. I'm completely aware of that.

Obama should tell congress either they approve Garland or he pardons Hillary.

That would be depriving congress of their favorite pastime. I mean what would they do if they couldn't repeatedly investigate manufactured Clinton scandals? Actually govern? Don't make me laugh.

He doesn't have a bully pulpit man. He's a Democrat President with both houses of congress currently controlled by the GOP, and both houses going to continue to be controlled by the GOP, and an incoming GOP president.

He's the lamest of all lame ducks. He can't make shit happen, especially not anything involving the Supreme Court. I don't know what you expect him to do at this point. What, pass yet another executive order? We all know how that's going to turn out.

Ditching Obamacare will be a great start. Obamacare isn't exactly small business friendly. So will lowering the corporate income tax. We have one of the highest corporate income taxes in the world. A few years ago The CEO of Merck was on 60 minutes when they did a story about how American Corporations are moving locations over seas which causes the money they make to be stranded over there. When asked why they do what they do the CEO said, "I have to answer to the share holders." Then he offered to bring that money back to America if they could "Get us close." I read today Trump wants to drop the tax to 15%. It's worth a try.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it makes any difference and certainly wouldn't actually get them to approve Garland, I just think it would be a fun fuck you to president "special prosecutor" trump on his way out of office.

Not trying to change the fact. Just pointing out he's already validating everything we expected of him. He's not changing from primary-campaign version of Trump.

I do see an immense amount of organizing amongst my science/engineering facebook friends. People who've never joined a political protest or even express an opinion are forming groups to protest, or donating (one guy donated $2k) to liberal groups (ACLU/planned parenthood/etc).

Whatever happens, the progressives are fired up more than i've ever seen, and we have Trump to thank for this.

Yeah, I hear ya. Progressives are motivated (there have been protests outside my office the past few days -- not like that'll do anything), but I'm super worried about what a progressive even is these days. Because if "progressive values" are only centered around social and identity issues, then we won't really have as many allies as you may think we have. And that's super troubling.

The fact that the right wing has mobilized around a populist message before the left did is fucking terrifying. And i'm not even talking in terms of cheap political points.

I'm seriously worried about how law enforcement is going to behave in a Trump presidency. Like, I'm legit worried. All these protests that we've seen centering around police brutality, etc. What happens when those police are being told from the top down that their number one priority during a protest is to establish "order" in a place like Ferguson or Charlotte? What happens when police in full riot gear go up against dissenters like at standing rock in a Trump presidency?

I'm also totally venting right now, so ignore me or whatever.

That this line of thinking is more than just an extreme minority is far more scary than anything I think Trump would or could do.

It's like me saying we should have locked up anyone at any tea party rallies back in 2010. Scary stuff.

But what are they really trying to accomplish via protesting?

I'm all for standing up for things and doing things that have some attainable goal, but what is the end-game here? Do they REALLY think protesting is going to get Trump to step down? Does that make sense to anyone? The government isn't going to kick him out because of protesters, that's like taking your kid to Disneyworld because it's throwing a temper tantrum.

Just like my idiot FB friends that are trying to spread petitions to get the Electoral College to change their votes, hahaha.

Obama should pardon HRC, as that would a great "fuck you" send-off to a woman that played underhanded politics with him in the 2008 primaries. Pardoning her will just confirm most of America's suspicions that she was guilty of mishandling classified information.
