Crypto is way too volatile and not supported by fundamentals or any intrinsic value in the economy. It's going up on speculation of a more favorable environment with the incoming Trump Administration. I wouldn't think it's a safe bet to hedge on cryptocurrency if Trump policies end up tanking the real economy. 11/21/2024 6:58:12 AM |

I’ve thought about residential REITs. My rationale is that housing prices are probably pretty inelastic. Supply constraints if they deport the labor source would prob drive prices up. Tariffs driving material costs higher would add to it.
If Trump doesn’t cause a bunch of inflation, then maybe the interest rates will continue to come down considerably, which will also stoke the flames of home prices with the pent up demand sidelined by interest rates.
I haven’t really thought much about this or looked hard into it. This is more me thinking out loud at this stage. Also, REITs are typically a stable income play, not a growth vehicle that I’d put a large percentage of my wealth in.
There are some Trump-play ETFs, too, but I haven’t really looked at them much yet. I figure he’ll do or say something dumb as shit that will cause the markets to recoil at least temporarily and give me a better buying opportunity.11/24/2024 7:38:33 PM |

They'll do it instantly, but I'm not sure it will work, even with their media efforts. The "median voter" is not much more sophisticated about the economy than "If I have no money it is the President's fault."

It won't have a ton of immediate impact. Most of the holiday shopping stuff has already arrived, and retailers aren't going to jack up prices on some future tariff hype and lose out to lower-priced competitors on Black Friday.
But yes, this policy is bad and the announcement of it strikes me as a more a "somebody forgot to take Trump's phone away before he went to the bathroom" than any sort of strategic move.11/26/2024 8:36:10 AM |

Maybe not Black Friday, but several retailers, Wal-Mart included, have said they will preemptively raise prices the moment tariffs are officially announced.11/26/2024 12:00:33 PM |

Earlier this month, Trump named Massad Boulos — a billionaire, Lebanese American businessman and the father-in-law of his daughter Tiffany — as a senior adviser on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs.
Here's who Trump has picked as Cabinet members and key advisers
Boulos, who twice ran unsuccessfully for parliament in Lebanon, has longstanding ties to powerbrokers in that country. He most recently helped lead the Trump campaign's outreach efforts to Arab American communities in Michigan.
His son Michael married Tiffany Trump at Mar-a-Lago in 2022.
Trump chose another of his children's in-laws for an ambassadorship last month, saying he intends to nominate real estate mogul Charles Kushner — whom he pardoned from various federal charges during his first term — as the ambassador to France.
Kushner is the father of Jared Kushner, the former White House senior adviser to Trump who is married to Trump's oldest daughter, Ivanka." |
