They were bad last year 14-17 in Sun Belt but they do return 3 double digit scoring guards. Tookie Brown, Mike Hughes, and Ike Smith averaged 17.8, 14.9, and 11.7. All three hit 46 or more 3s. So that part is a little worrisome. Still expect a 20 point win after our depth and hopefully established inside presence take over.

For example, a defender tries to prevent the offensive player from moving down the lane line by moving into the offensive player's cylinder (with the alternative offensive foul being if the offensive player moves into the defensive player's cone). Another change with the cylinders involves a secondary defender, who is in the restricted area. If he makes a play on the ball, while staying in his cylinder (i.e. jumps straight up), and the offensive player generates the contact, it should result in a no call instead of a block. If the defender doesn't meet all of the criteria (i.e. tries to take a charge or generates the contact) then it should result in a block. Finally, the determining factor in whether an elbow was intentionally thrown, or if it was accidental (in regards to a player with the ball) is whether or not the player's elbows were out or not. If his elbows are out, it's an offensive foul. If his elbows are down, it is either a no call, or a defensive foul."

unfortunately, this is abused by offensive players jumping into defenders down low. a defender standing or jumping basically straight up to contest a shot should not be called for a foul when the offensive player jumps into the defenders "cylinder". but the offense gets the benefit of the doubt almost always and that's gonna be a defensive foul.

That's definitely something the college game needs to get worked out. The NBA has the rule of verticality (that Hibbert used to perfection in Indy) where if you go straight up, with your arms straight up, in no way will that ever be a defensive foul. In most cases it should be a no-call, and in blatant cases should be a charge.

You should never be punished in basketball for literally standing your ground when a offensive player is driving the basketball at you.
