Just got my old NES and Genesis out of my parents house now that my son is old enough to enjoy it. Only game I could find is the original Mario, and we are having a blast playing it. Think I'm going to buy Super Mario 3, Zelda, Sonic 1 and 2. Any other classics you'd consider a must have? What are your favorite classic games? Any suggestions on where to find some of these older games on the cheap? Goodwill, flea mkts, etc.
Forgot to mention, there's a cool store owned by Goodwill in the university area of Charlotte called The Grid. They sell a shitload of retro systems, games etc. Really cool store worth checking out if you're in that area.

That NES Classic Edition console with 30 games included comes out tomorrow. I honestly wouldn't even bother trying to get an NES setup more complicated than that going if I were you: https://www.nintendo.com/nes-classic
That joint has an HDMI hook-up and isn't a decades-old piece of cheap hardware prone to failure. Spend $60 tomorrow and start enjoying things sooner.
TecToy is putting out something similar in Brazil for the Genesis. Might just be a matter of time before it comes here, too.
In before a bunch of cats post in here about LOL JUST BUILD YOUR OWN EMULATOR SETUP FOR FREEEEEEE $$$

just bui....oh wait. I'm with Frosh on this one. If you don't already own those games, it'll probably cost you a few bucks a piece to get them from a legit store. That adds up quickly for the time you'll play them. For the cost of 1 AAA title getting the NES-classic sets you up with a good chunk of the good games.
there might be some real gems you are missing, but at least some of those would be pricey to get on the old system. 11/10/2016 4:16:29 PM |

I'm not buying that new Nintendo because I already have an NES and Genesis that work perfectly fine. I figure I can spend tops $40 and get a few more games. I really only want a few games, and I'm not in a hurry so I'll just keep an eye out at thrift stores and things like that. Plus I just like the idea of having the original console better. As far as the piece of crap hardware, the NES is actually a work horse in my experience. Most of the finickiness comes from either the cartridges or the 72 pin connector not being clean, and those are both pretty easy fixes if and when they are ever needed.
If I didn't already have the systems, I'd agree that the new system probably makes more sense. One thing I did hear about the new one though that doesn't make much sense is that you are limited to the games that come on it. Is that true? If so, that's a terrible feature, or lack thereof. 11/10/2016 4:57:38 PM |

It's true, but there are very few games on the NES that most people even have an interest in playing outside of those 30, to be honest. Like what's really missing from the list that's included? Blades of Steel maybe, River City Ransom, maybe a couple of the Mega Man or Ninja Gaiden titles? In my opinion, most of the NES's catalogue is missable by today's standards and not even as fun as your average freemium smartphone game.
To me, the time I'd have to invest in assembling a library of used NES cartridges is worth way more than the value I'd personally get out of owning the cartridges. And good luck replacing the batteries in carts with saved game support provided by battery backup. But good luck anyway, I understand the appeal.

NES: Jackal Contra
Genesis: The Revenge of Shinobi Toe Jam & Earl - not the best game but as far as I know it was uniquely Sega Genesis. Streets of Rage
^^ http://www.dkoldies.com/blog/-complete-list-of-nintendo-nes-games-with-save-batteries/
Genesis did it too.

I've never played streets of rage, but a lot of people say 1 & 2 are the best genesis games. Heard Shinobi is the shit too. Never played that one either. These games are so much more fun to me than the newer games. I got a ps3 when they first came out but could never really get into it, except ncaa football. Mario on the other hand is hard to put down.
Thats interesting about the batteries, I never knew you could save your place on any nintendo game.

I bought two NES classics yesterday, sold 1 on eBay for $405. Ridiculous ppl will pay such for this little thing. But I'm obsessed with Punchout right now.

^That's insane. The stores will probably have them in stock in a couple months. I did browse the internet to see if I might get lucky and find one to resell, but you'd have to be really lucky with your timing. I can't believe ppl are paying $400 for that thing. 11/12/2016 11:39:43 AM |
