It would be great if this helped push more states toward mail-in ballots at least. Voting in CO is so easy.

I mean the only reason in my view is to force candidates to campaign in smaller states, but general election doesnt do that so why do primaries have to?

Would def need ranked choice in addition to mail in, though

I think they should put the primaries in order of states that were closest in the previous general election. Do that for about 5 states one week apart then have everyone else vote on one day.

Republicans suppress the vote in the general in various ways because it helps them win. Democrats do the same thing in the primaries to prevent young and working people from voting.

It's possible for a candidate to easily visit all the countries in Iowa and hit all the stupid little events like the Iowa State Fair. You also can focus advertisement there. Basically, it allows for candidates without a bunch of money to build up a campaign that has a chance.

A nationwide contest all at once HEAVILY favors richer candidates who can perform massive ad buys

Gee, maybe if we got rid of the electoral college AND an asinine primary system at the same time we could really be going places!

^^1) what's that say about their general election
2) why can't they still go to all the same small town events?

You could have the exact same debate and campaign schedule, just combine voting days. Youd prob need to ramp up debate qualifiers early but with RCV, I don't see the problem.

Big bucks Bloomberg earned 60 delegates

his point was that bloomberg only got 60 because they were spread out.

Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Ohio should each have gone two weeks apart in january and february then do everyone else one day at the end in April.

That meets all of the concerns that have been expressed.

Has anyone else forgotten that the EC made it possible for a billionaire to wind up in the White House despite how dumb our primary process is? Because he's still running, and he's got a great chance of winning.

BUT IF WE CHANGE THE PRIMARY SYSTEM WE MAY WIND UP WITH ONLY BILLIONAIRE CANDIDATES!!1

Pretty sure that states can ratify the Constitution and we only need 2/3rds of them to do it. Maybe we could revisit the process once we stop the bleeding.

If so it's a bad point, he got 100% of his delegates on super Tuesday and finished in 4th place just for that day.

I'm really confused why this is hard to understand? Dark horse candidates/those with little name recognition would struggle. You wouldn't have seen Carter or Obama

That may or may not be true tbh. The primary cycle could just shift overall and people might pay more attention to debates and less to Iowa and New Hampshire. Or not, idk. I'm just not sure it's that simple of an answer.

Everyones endorsing the nominee now. That doesn't excuse Warren's refusal to endorse Bernie when she had a chance to help the progressive movement.

As someone who was OK with Warren staying in through Super Tuesday I think it’s perfectly rational and acceptable to question and even be outraged she didn’t endorse Bernie the day she dropped out.

Can't tell if sarcasm or serious, but she doesn't 'owe' anybody shit in terms of endorsements. She has every right to wait it out and see what kind of offers she can get in terms of cabinet positions, let alone being a dark horse for Biden's VP.

Unless you're talking about Tulsi, in which case. LMAO

^^ or maybe it was in the best interest of the progressive movement. if she realized that neither she nor bernie were going to get enough votes in the primary, perhaps she calculated that the next best option would be to try to earn a spot in biden's administration and use that influence to advance as much of the progressive agenda as she could

Are you talking about Warren, or Tulsi earl?

(hint: all candidates pretty much do the same thing, because politics)

Probably. Or maybe she felt personally attacked by all the psycho Bernie Bros who act like complete dicks to everyone online when they don't get their way and decided she didn't want to reward their behavior.

The only person who will ever truly know is Warren herself, but it's cool that Sanderistas are such great fortune tellers and that they've been right about predicting everything, aside from election results. Might as well throw clairvoyance into the mix while they're at it, since they're so sure of everything...

^^^^^ (I think... to UJustWaits) .. I didn’t say she owed anyone. She has freedom to do what she pleases. I’m saying progressive anger at her for not endorsing Bernie AFTER she dropped out is justifiable.

Maybe she made a calculated decision that what she cares about is best moved forward by moving Biden left. Though, tbh, that is a lot harder if the coalition that worked in 2018 (moderate ex-GOP suburban women) is replicated in 2020.

I'm a progressive and I'm certainly not angry at her, so that argument doesn't fly.

It's time to stop calling Sanderistas progressives, and to label them correctly as radical left socialists. I want no part of their movement, even if some of their policies appeal to my own values.

my personal take is that while the toxicity of the bernie movement (real or imagined although i have my own thoughts on that "study") may have been a factor, I think if Warren felt she would be more likely to get aspects of her platform implemented, she would have taken a risk on endorsing Bernie despite whatever ill will she felt. Even if Bernie's primary numbers were much better than they were, there's still a reasonable argument that if Bernie won he'd be unable to get anything done anyways #NoMiddleGround and better to take the risk on Biden and maybe get at least something done. hopefully she'll write a book in the next year and spill the beans on her calculus

The guy has been a conservative Dem his whole life. He's not going to change his mind at 78 years old. He campaigned for a Republican recently. He said nothing would fundamentally change if he were elected, he would be open to a Republican running made, and that he would veto M4A. I think he probably promised her a VP or cabinet spot, along with all the other drop-outs. We at least know he did that to Yang.

I mean, he has literally already adopted both Bernie and Warren policies. He may not be the BEST option many of us wanted, but he's not completely useless (especially at this point if we try to work with him instead of against him) and certainly a MUCH better result than Trump and the GOP

you're not helping your case with the Yang thing because nobody ever said Yang was offered a VP spot by Biden other than people who wanted to find a reason to call Yang a sellout for acknowledging that Biden had for all intents and purposes already locked up the nomination

you may not be familiar with his brand of humor. he was just trolling all y'all who called him a sellout over the last couple prior days. i mean seriously, if any other candidate had straight up suggested on their twitter that another candidate had directly offered them a VP or any cabinet position, the media would have jumped on it. nobody reported on that tweet because they saw it for what it was, a smirky joke.
