Looks the the Aston Martin cars are going to win the LM GTE Pro division.

Oh and Denny Hamlin won in Xfinity and John Hunter Nemechek won in the truck series. Crafton and Briscoe both had solid runs again, but failed to win.

Wow, what an exciting last 10 minutes for GTE Pro. The Corvette was leading for a long time, the Aston dove inside to try to pass but the corvette was able to cut inside and keep the lead. Going wide slowed down the Aston and the Corvette opened up his lead. The the Corvette locked up and went straight through the gravel at a chicane. He picked up time but got a picture and damaged his front spoiler and was under steering. The Aston passed and on the last lap the Corvette was just trying to get across the line and the Ford passed him before the Corvette passed the line smoking with sparks flying with he front drivers side tire absolutely locked up and flat spotted

LOL at Corvette running off the track on the final lap, cutting a tire, and finishing 3rd.

^^ i think his tire was already going down before his off at the chicane, he had contact earlier in the lap and that's when i think his trouble actually started.

^Good point. Jordan Taylor is a good driver. He is undefeated in the IMSA Prototype division this year.

WOW! Larson won!!!!!!!! I'm getting used to him blowing it in the last 50 laps of a race.

Pretty decent race. The racing has significantly improved this year. I hate that it took stage racing and the charter system to get us there, but it really is better overall.

Doubtful. Too much money and that's what has happened time and again when you create a category so expensive that only car manufacturers can afford to do it. It's also why IMSA don't even have an LMP1 class in their series.

The one lone Porsche staved off a pretty embarrassing loss for the class on the level of when the Grand-Am prototype class lost to the GT cars at the Daytona 24 Hours for a few years.

^^ My wife said she liked the stages. I responded I don't mind the concept of stages inasmuch I mind the 12-minute-long caution flag that follows. (Time for one of them yesterday from stage end to green flag was 12 minutes.) Throw on top of it the absolutely beyond stupid wave-around rule, and excuse me Fox if I'm not really impressed that Erik Jones is running in the top 10 when you gave him a lap back he didn't earn at a prescheduled caution by driving around the pace car. Congrats, he was on the lead lap, so was Matt DiBenedetto with 75 to go. There was as much demonstrated display of talent by Jones to get on the lead lap as there was from DiBenedetto.

As far as the racing, the charters have nothing to deal with it, and based on the car count and the number of leases this year there are in fact too many of them.

Seema to me that having a guaranteed spot in every race would make it easier to secure solid sponsorship, which makes it easier to actually compete with the elite teams.

^The problem is no one cares about the no name teams that finish middle to back of the pack every week. I wouldn't want to sponsor whoever traditionally finishes in the back half of the pack either if I owned my own corporation. Outside of the top 10, or 15 best drivers the only ones worth maybe sponsoring would be Danica Patrick just because she is a girl and Jeffrey Earnhardt just because of his last name. The rest are pointless.

^I will say I saw someone involved with Lowe's say on a pre-race show a few years ago that they get $9 back for ever $1 they invest in NASCAR. Of course they sponsor one of the best drivers who is a part of one of the best teams in NASCAR, so it is probably worth it. I'm guessing that isn't the case in all situations though. Some of those drivers in the back of the pack never even get a mention on TV unless they wreck.

well its supposed to get the people interested in leaving for formula e (porsche) to stay

there are also money saving things like adaptive aero so they don't have to develop a package for each track

^ Porsche will never leave sportscars. They didn't have a factory entry for years and still had tons of privateers (some of whom were factory blessed) campaign their 911s.

I've yet to find actual racefans of Formula E, the biggest proponents of it seem to be people that don't actually like racing in that they don't like racing but this is what they think racing should be. They're going to hold a race in New York City for instance - the city in the country that notoriously hates racing and automobiles the most: the dumbassishness of Bernie Ecclestone has spread. And you'll never get the European racing crowd with a spec car, they're notoriously anti-spec.

It's certainly well funded though when you look at the teams and how a lot of the drivers are F1 castoffs. Andretti for example has a team and he's shown in other series he's not fielding a car in something like this unless someone else is paying the bills.

Driver-wise it seems to be a series for guys waiting to get into sportscars or Indycar or weren't able to make it in those categories. Esteban Gutierrez just left the rest of his Formula E season to take a ride with Dale Coyne (not a top team) in Indycars. And some others have left for WEC rides. Sebastien Buemi (current series point leader by a large margin) should be in F1, but isn't because he was a Red Bull guy coming up and they chuck youngsters into the garbage can on a routine basis.

I watched some of a race last year when they were in Paris, and the Mickey Mouse track design combined with the high-pitched engine whine just struck me like I was watching a karting race. To become better they absolutely have to get rid of the car switch, get rid of the fan vote giving certain drivers a boost in horsepower (that is so wrong on so many levels), and the race courses need to become more challenging.

NeuseRvrRat,

You have teams like Roush and Petty for this year that effectively gave up their charters on one-year leases because they couldn't find the money to field them (at the level they expect). If they don't use those cars next year, they'll forfeit the charters. (In other words, they'll sell them at discount prices, which reduces their value.) Not to mention you don't need a charter to make the field at the moment, and teams like the Wood Brothers have never owned one. (They've been doing lease deals, maybe expecting the price to go down.) To add on, all indications are Danica will retire and Stewart-Haas will drop the 10 car.

You look at owner points and there are the 36 full-timers plus 3 that have been at most races. (The BK #83 have been in every race this year, but are not entering Sonoma. ) The #83 is in owner points 35th, ahead of its teammate #23 and Jeffrey Earnhardt's #33, both of which have charters. Throwing in other drivers that can be safely called backmarkers, Michael McDowell's #95, Cole Whitt's #72, Matt DiBenedetto's #32, the 2 Front Row cars (Cassill and Ragan), and the Premium #15 car, and 8 of the 36 charters are being used by that type of team if not a full charter than on a lease. (By the way, Danica's car is 30th in owner points behind the #95 and the #38.)

I'm not all heavy anti-backmarker. One of Indycar's problems at the moment is there is no entry route into the series for a lower-class team (if you want to enter new, you have to spend like the middle-class) and they only have a 21-car entry most races. You might say "who cares?" but if the field has no backmarkers that means the middle-class finish at the back, and that's not good for them trying to get sponsors. Backmarkers also should provide opportunities to new drivers, new sponsors, new crewmen, new owners. Furniture Row were once a backmarker.

NASCAR's problem at the moment is the front of the the field is healthy and the back of the field is actually pretty healthy (these guys are running the full race, they're not start-and-parkers). The problem is the series' middle-class has been constantly hollowed out. I think if you went back through all the mergers and such, the current Ganassi and Petty teams used to be half the field (DEI, Evernham, Bobby Ginn, Petty, Ganassi, Yates, probably missing a couple).

Porsche has been talking about leaving LMP1 for Formula E, the rule change to plug-in is supposed to be to get them to stay

The ACO have always written the rulebook to appease the manufacturers. Audi wanted to run a diesel-powered car one year. Guess what happened? Petrol-powered cars had a lot of disadvantages baked in. Audi backed off the diesel. Guess what happened? The diesels were penalized backward.

That is how sportscar racing works, for better or worse.

^What one would you get rid of on the cup series then? New Hampshire lost a second date so that Las Vegas could get a second date. I guess Dover, Pocono, Kansas, Michigan, or Phoenix would be the best options since they host Cup twice.
