Does anyone think it's a bad idea to have the setting for this movie take place around WWI? I really enjoyed the first Captain America, but I know for a lot of people that was their least favorite one, and the setting being WWII could have had something to do with it.

Trailer looks good.

This is a DC movie, and gives me zero confidence.

bttt

Not buying the twitter hype that this is getting. Nobody with any real credibility is saying anything, and the embargo is apparently not gonna be lifted until the day of release. That can't be a good sign.

I'm still concerned that the story line takes place in WWI. Worry people won't relate.

We'll see.

I mean she tries to prevent the war. Obviously she wasn't successful.

To be fair, he didn't direct Suicide Squad either.

I haven't seen a DC superhero movie since The Dark Knight Rises. Should I jump in on this one (since it's supposed to be legit) or should I watch any of the superman reboot/BvS/suicide squad?

I actually liked BvS. It wasn't an all-time great or anything...but was very entertaining. Wonder Woman's part in that movie was also pretty good.

I definitely would like to see this movie...but probably won't get around to it. Again..Gal Gadot is a goddess.

One thing that really annoyed me was that joke they played up in the trailers. "Who's she...?" "I though she was with you?"

BRUCE WAYNE YOU LITERALLY EMAILED HER ASKING FOR HELP

This movie was good. Finally a good DC movie.

Still a little too dark for much of the movie. Not like gritty dark, but like nighttime dark and you can't see shit.

Thought it was pretty solid. I wouldn't really agree with ^ assessment though, from what I remember there were only like 2 scenes set at night, granted, one of them was the climax, but I didn't think it was overly dark at all and had no trouble seeing things.

I was disappointing by this movie. I was expecting it to be better.

It was fine. Just like BvS was fine. If you don't like previous DC movies I don't see how this is any different. It does not fill me with much hope for Justice League.

^The best of the DC cinematic universe movies, by far. I can't think of any plot holes off the top of my head (may be able to think of some if I think about it?), but BvS and Suicide Squad were FULL of them.

Sidenote: Is she ever actually referred to as "Wonder Woman" in this or BvS?

Well yes Suicide Squad was god awful. Wonder Woman is much better than Suicide Squad.

But plot holes. Yeah they exist in the other DC movies. But does WW actually have a plot? I guess?

There was decent character building with Steve and Diana but that's the extent of it; and I wouldn't go farther than calling it decent but I did buy the relationship so it did its job.

There were several scenes, especially in London, that were cut very oddly to the point where I was unclear as to what they were trying to communicate.

Overall the entire movie after they left the island felt hastily edited and empty. The action scenes (except the last set piece) were decently done and I buy her in the role.

The villain was a terrible cast, and a very underwhelming end fight. As bad as doomsday was, Wonder Woman in that fight was far better than anything in the Ares fight at the end of this movie.

Still it wasn't a terrible movie. It was just fine. I was hoping for more and the initial praise for it raised my hopes.

I have to agree with Lokken. Pine and Gadot were easily the best parts of the movie. They had great chemistry, and Pine's Steve Trevor was the only real character in the whole film. The supporting cast was so, so, so bad. Remember palling around with those fuckin' cartoon characters the whole second act?

It's okay for this to have just been an okay movie, though. It's not the first time a good performance of a good character has been mired in bad choices.

I saw it last night. It was fun, but I wasn't blown away from it like TDK. Still good though.

HBO Now has Suicide Squad on demand so I think I'm going to watch it this week. Maybe that would make me hold WW in higher regard?

And no, I don't think she was ever referred to as "Wonder Women".

Only problems I had with this movie was the early parts dragging a little and the end being a little to reliant on CGI.

I didn't have any problem with the supporting characters. I mean compared to the Howling commandos in Captain America at least they had distinct personalities.

I didn't notice any glaring plot holes of the sort where even one person acting rationally would have resolved the whole conflict, like BvS was filled with. BvS also had the same grim and serious tone through the whole movie, so that when the ending cane you were already tired of it, and even when they made a half hearted attempt at humor it fell flat. WW moved between light and serious very easily and had several actually funny parts.

So after thinking on it for a couple days, I think I'd give this one a solid B, and rank it easily above the other DC universe films. Having said that, there were definitely some issues. Some of the CGI was horrendous for a film of this budget and the graphic capabilities that we have today. A lot of the Amazonian fighting shots that had them flipping through the air looked bad and rubbery, very reminiscent of Neo fighting the multiple agent Smiths from the second matrix movie. Also, by the end of this movie there is absolutely no defined power set for Wonder Woman, she can just do whatever they want. My problem with that actually sort of began in BvS, the smashing the gauntlets together creating some kind of giant explosion I guess looks kind of cool visually, but doesn't really make any sort of sense (is that something she's ever done in the comics? I don't really know). There also wasn't much that makes me ever want to revisit this movie. Marvel is so good at making bad ass action sequences that I have to see again, there weren't really any moments like that for me in this one. But even with those negatives, it kepts me entertained for the viewing and I'd say is worth a watch.

^ that is very not real, and in fact completely made up. There is no evidence of any sort of boycott by Ashley Judd and the "Hollywood feminists" and even if there were it would be related to zionism instead of feminism.

I go to a couple of feminist websites and they cannot shut up about how much they love this movie. The only call for boycott I've seen was from MRA losers who complained about a theater chain holding all women screenings.

Loved this movie.

spoilers

Was looking for the end fight scene. (failed) Found some interesting reactions.

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/herocomplex/la-et-hc-wonder-woman-crying-20170605-htmlstory.html

I like the perspective. I definitely felt the undercurrent of this when she rammed the armored vehicle in the town fight scene. A lot of this movie was seemingly venting this frustration, breaking down tropes.

I put this above most, if not all, stand alone Marvel movies. Winder solider might be the only one better. If you consider civil war a stand alone? Maybe.

And they kill off Steve in a meaningful impactful way. I cant even remember if Marvel has done that in a stand alone. If DC wants to be 'darker' or more 'realistic' this is a way to do it instead of being really dark and depressing. Actually kill off characters the audience is vested in.

Finally saw it, rented it from Amazon. I thought it was a solid movie. My only issue with the plot occurs right before the final battle. Trevor didn't have to die - Diana was immune to the gas. All she had to do, rather than be indecisive after killing Luddendorf, was to tell Trevor and his men to GTFO, and just jump down and wreck the canisters.
